I haven't read Reniaa's argument but I noticed she is using the NIV and not the NWT. Just wanted to give her props on that.

Are You Paul or are you Saul?
by reniaa inthis was the same man at different times in his life yet he changed his name because he completely changed his ideals and goals too.
both were extremely zealous, both thought they were doing gods work, both thought they were working for the greater good.. acts 8:3 (new international version)3but saul began to destroy the church.
going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.. soul thought gods work was to destroy the christians but paul.... acts 20: 19i served the lord with great humility and with tears, although i was severely tested by the plots of the jews.

You could find the Elders molesting little boys and people would still believe... Oh wait hang on? That already happen... I'll consider my point validated. Word of unsolicted advice: Don't worry about what they believe worry about what you believe. They are no different than drug addicts. If you want to get clean you have to be willing to acknowledge they might be ok people but you are going to have to with them.

Can you please see if you can get my pet Lion for me? I will consider settling for the moderately attractive women in the yellow dress of the pic nic basket if it comes down to it. I don't want the horse too much work and I don't have enough water for the ducks.

I do feel that child pornography is in a different league than porn in general, much scarier.
That's an understatement... I am glad you feel that way Blondie.
Porn is not Child Porn not even close. Many normal healthy people like to watch grown ups do it all the time. Please don't even compare the two.

I am too apathetic to consider myself an Apostate. But I would go to an apostate fest on the off chance of meeting a very attractive and sexually repressed woman.

The Watchtower Sunday without a doubt. I remember counting how many paragraphs were left like you would the mile markers on long road trip. Whenever I can't sleep I wish I just had a tape of the Watchtower study to play.

Reniaa brings up a good point. I do a lot Chrisitian activies volunteer work, etc.. My own Father cornered me on this once and said what do you do when they bring up the Trinity. I told him uhhh Dad, they aren't JW's only you guys constantly bring it up. We are just people that believe in God and accept Christ as our saviour, everything else is moot beyond that and subjective for the most part. Christ said not to be divisive but to be inclusive. He certainly didn't say all that is needed for salvation is to believe in me and the Watchtower did he? To speak directly to Reniaa, the Trinity is biblical. First you must understand that what you think Christians think the trinity is, is not so. Clear your mind of what the Watchtower tells you about the trinity and ask a few pastors or crusie the internet. Then compare that with what the Bible says not using the New World Translation which was translated by a spiritist x-communiated Catholic Priest. (See Johannes Greber).
That being said Password: I would relay that sentiment to your Dad. Tell him you just don't understand why God would find it so displeasing to him that people would choose to listen to songs about their relationship with him. You also need to testify about your relationship with God. It is subjective and is something not even a JW can argue their way out of. This will also plant those first seeds that maybe it is possible to relate to God outside of the org. Don't be anything but apologetic about not telling him. Don't say you are going to keep the grandkids away from him or show any other kind of dissapointment or negativity. Keep is sunny and positive.
When you hang up though... Give him the cold shoulder for a while make them reach out to you. They will call ask about the grandkids, say where have you been etc..etc.. Just say you've been busy that's all. They will come closer trust me. Nothing you are saying is earth shaking you are making them look like the jerks if they ignore you for "loving God". This is how I broke my folks. It's a process, good luck.

The Power of Faith
by AllTimeJeff inthe power of faith (latest blog o' mine).
there is a big difference between looking at a picture of the empire state building and actually visiting it.
to have a friend tell you that it is great, that it is amazaing, awe inspiring and grand won't do it justice until you see it for yourself.. in a similar way, there is a big difference between having a healthy faith, and being told to have a healthy faith.. many who used to be jw's, as well as a fair number of christians, spend a lot of time on ex jw boards, looking to promote a simple thought.

Faith like love is irrational yet us believer's indulge because we know it is the right thing to do. Faith is not found in church or in any religous oragnization. It is based on God having a personal undeniable interaction with the believer. My life would be much more simple if I could believe there was no God or ultimate judgement. But having believed that I asked for and received a revelation of God's existence I can not deny him.
Those with out faith will never understand those that do. I certainly can not expect them to understand why I go to church and do other things. The JW's make you place your faith the org not your relationship with God. When you get married you are not placing your faith in the institution of marriage necessarily. You are putting your faith in that person that you are choosing. You know full well the divorce rate is close to 50%. You may even have a friend of co-worker that is cheating on their spouse. But you don't come home and divorce your wife for what someone else does to their spouse. Your relationship with her is personal and intimate. That is the best way to describe were my faith comes from. I think a lot of you are looking at it backwards. Church and being a Christian Starts with a personal relationship or an experience with God, it doesn't end there. I am sounding like a Calvinist but if you haven't had that experience I don't know how you could even believe in his existence. If you want that experience all I can say is earnestly seek it and pray for it. I prayed on my knees in tears for months in earnest and sometimes angry and frustrated prayer. I was living my life in an amoral philosophy which made sense if there was no judgment. I told God I was giving him one last chance to change my mind before I committed to a self-serving philosophy. The JW brainwashing teaches if you are a good enough JW Jehovah will love you, it's the other way around in my book.

I guess I just remember being a kid and having this conversation:
Me: Mom I want to be an Astronaut when I grown up!
Mom: No you can't you're a JW, Astronauts are pilots from the Air Force and Armed Services most likley.
Me: Oh, okay then I want to be a School Teacher
Mom: No, you would have to go to College and make children salute the flag, you are a JW.
Me: Oh, Okay then I want to be a Captain of a Ship
Mom: No, you would miss to many meetings
Me: Oh Okay then I want to be a Cowboy!
Mom: Uhhhh.... son what kind of Cowboy?
Me: The kind with a gun that shoots bad guys.
Mom: No, you're a JW we wait on Jehovah to kill the bad people
<I am getting extremely frustrated>
Me: Okay then a police man, I will take them to Jail till Jehovah kills them.
Mom: Nope you would have to carry a gun and take an oath.
Me: Okay, Mom I guess I'll just pioneer until I get accepted to Bethel and I can make books for free!
Mom: Son, I love you so much.
Me: I love you too, Mom.
I guess I was close... Fireman was definitley by next choice but I gave up.
