That's some good stuff, Spook. I bet they just sat in their chairs thinking "Uh, so should we disfellowship him or not? "

Phrases NOT to say if you are in a judicial committee meeting for apostasy
by BonaFide ini have only been on a couple of committee's for actual apostasy, and in one the brother never showed, and in the other, the person said they don't want to be a witness.
but in having experience as an elder and a c.o., and in reading this forum, here are my suggestions.. do not say:.
"i don't believe that the faithful and discreet slave is god's channel" - why not?

I got my hands on the new "Wonders of Creation" DVD release
by Megachusen inmy head is still ringing from all the delicious spiritual food that i received today so i won't have my review up for at least another day or so.
suffice it to say that the dvd is extremely well designed(for the society, that is).
you can tell right away that they put a lot of money into cg planetoids.

How can you want them to become apart of this organization? You say you want to save them and yet you don't even stop to think about what it would mean if you yourself didn't have the "truth".
I too was at the Tucson convention. Do you know what I heard? I heard logical fallacies about how Evolution is impossible just because it contradicts their interpretation of the Bible. I heard about how gay marriage is immoral and how False Religion( tm ) is trying to make said marriages legal. I heard ridiculous appeals to emotion through a drama that put forward the notion that if you leave "SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN" and that all "worldly" people are strictly in it for themselves. I heard through that same drama that the idea that humans should do our best to make the world a better place is a waste of time. Instead, all of us should "keep on the watch" for the end of this system which is, no doubt, just around the corner. Just like how it always has been for 2,000 years.
I'm going to guess that none of the above made you feel even a hint of doubt. There's a point where it's impossible to get a cultist to reason and I'm fairly certain that you're at that point.
However, if someone reading this does have the convention recorded it would be a good idea to give it to her. Hiding away the information will not keep her friends from converting. If they can listen to the whole convention and are still willing to join the org than I'm pretty sure that they deserve it.
Also, why the fuck are you even on an "apostate" website? Don't you release that we're going to "poison" your thoughts away from Jehovah?

When you heard "apostate" who did you imagine?
by nbernat ini've always imagined a 60-year-old man with white hair who is really arrogant and grumpy with an evil look in his eyes, a very cold person who wanted to do nothing but ruin people's lives and was working for satan.
i never imagined i'd be one.... ...that or a 55-year-old woman with gray hair with glasses and a very rude look, and smarter-than-thou attitude.. you?.

Crazy JW chaperon Stories

I invited a girl to a movie and ended up having her brother and mother come along.
Sad to say, this wasn't very long ago.

i remember all of those talks about behaving at assemblies and all of those talks about setting a good example.. .
what if people were to go to an assembly, looking exactly like a jw, but behaving like a jw could never get away with?.

It's kind of funny that I saw this post today. I was chewing gum, wearing large sunglasses, and listening to trance music on my Zune during the program yesterday.
It's safe to say that I had a really good time.

How long will the WTBTS survive?
by Megachusen ingive it your best educated guess.
how long do you guys think it has left?.
personally, i think it has about 10 years before the org's leadership disolves and the religion splinters into hundreds of adorable little jw-like cults..

I'm surprised at how many people in this thread think that it has 40+ years left.
For once the society has been right -- the scene of this world is changing. Rationality is making a come back and I'm certain the GB is aware of it. Look at the new "Wonders" DVD: they completely ignore evolution. Why? For the past 100 years they've bad-mouthed and criticized evolution while making erroneous claims and spreading disinformation. Why stop now?
When the DVD was being announced the brother giving the talk made it clear: this is their new anti-evolution medium. The brother explained three times how it was supposed to replace our current "Life How Did It Get Here" book. If it is indeed supposed to replace the past anti-evolution literature, why does it never talk about it? For further evidence of this back-peddling make a note at your convention at how many times the brothers mention evolution while giving talks that have nothing to do with it.
Check out this article: http://www.watchtower.org/e/20080101a/article_01. htm
In it they explain how it's impossible to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. Well, I've got bad news for them: they're going to have to soon if they want to survive.

I would go with something simple like "Flooded".
