Has anyone seen the movie Mind Walk? It basically talks about systems theory, though for the intellectuals among us I would recomment Ken Wilber's books.. Anyway, let me know what you all think.

there are lots of outrageous things that have happened to each of us in our longer or shorter association with the jay-dubs.
but it's amazing sometimes what teeny things have been the final straw.. being raised as a jw, i swallowed most stuff whole my entire life.
then, as a teen began to question some things, but waited patiently for jehovah to straightened things out.
Hmm, I don't know if I have a straw. Of course, in my case I "drifted" away and found out more later. But what made me decide to stop going to meetings was .. oh yes, I was relating the work what's his name did in terms of learned pessimism with dogs - you probably know what I'm talking about Larc, he wrote a book called Learned Optimism, did experiments where the dogs were shocked when trying to escape or something and when the barrier was gone they didn't even try.. Silly me, I emailed that to an elder's wife, the one I studied with. Needless to say, he had atleast a small cow and asked me not to email such things anymore because it is demeaning, whereas I was making the point about the power of the mind and the influence on our health. I guess I just thought that's pretty narrow minded, I can't deal with individuals like this anymore..
hi everybody, i'm wondering if there are any members here who are psychologists, because i am considering changing my major back to psych.. although i think there can be improvements in the dsm-iv and such, i do want to be of service in this capacity.
of course, i'm also interested in hearing from other members with similar interest.
thanks.. mark
Ah, I see Larc, I was under the impression you're an extremely bright young man. :-) Given your background, I'm interested in your opinion on where you see the profession going in the next few years.. Do you see more interdisciplinary exchanges happening?

Hi Jelly, many have mentioned social work as an alternative, I'll definitely look into it, thanks. :)
please help, become a volunteer!.
you've probably wanted to do something positive to help our fellow humans, since learning that we have been working for a man made organisation all this time.
well you can fellow x's and jw's.. "people now have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the disease by donating their unused computer power, which will enable us to accelerate our programme of research, and come up with many new molecular candidates that could be developed into cancer drugs.
Well I haven't checked it out, but the technology isn't new.. I believe SETI uses it to find aliens.
Anyone interested in "alternative" medicine? Try www.ralphmoss.com - he does reports on specific types on cancers..
just wondering if any here have tried this, and what were your results.
or, does it offend your religious and/or spiritual senses?.

Well, I used to use a variety of "mind machines" for brainwave entrainment and the like, even have one that sends electrical current through.. But the thing is I think ultimately if you want any kind of real behavioral modification it has to occur on a conscious level. Just become enlightened, that'll take care of everything. ;-)
Hannibal, as you can imagine I agree with those who have made the point about looking within. I'd like to make another point though, and that is we don't need to have all the answers. Even the WTS didn't claim to have all the answers. I suppose fear of the unknown is pretty common, but you certainly can't go through life that way, because there will always be unknowns. I would say that the one thing you can come to know is your own mind, and that is the place to start because there is where the uncertainty and insecurities lie. If you stick with such self examination (which is essentially meditation) you will be in a much better position to examine the big questions. You may not come to any big breakthroughs, but I believe you'll find that not knowing becomes easier to accept. To know the truth, we must start with the truth about ourselves.
i've really enjoyed and continue to enjoy "reflections of hope", the composer is a clinical psychologist.
there are sound clips at the following site:.

Hi Waiting, thanks I believe I will stay around for some time. I enjoy being with friends in the true sense of the word.
Larc, psych is interesting, and unfortunately it's been too long for me to talk intelligently about many of the specifics, but it sounds like you're taking your studies seriously which is great. You seem like someone who has a logical mind, and I'm curious whether you've ever investigated philosophy. Anyhow, if you care to chat on a more personal level feel free to email me.

Hannibal, my understanding of that verse is not so much an instruction but a description. To me it is a choice, a 'Christ consciousness' if you will. I myself do not believe in following any religious teaching for the purpose of personal salvation, in fact that is not something I give much thought to these days. To me that verse means those who seek to save their ego will lose their soul.
