Elder Gives Talk About "Unbelievers" & "Unbeliever" Calls Him An "Asshole"
by minimus inthe husband of a sister attended the public talk and the visiting elder came down hard on "unbelievers" and "worldly" people.
he spoke about how miserable it is for faithful sisters to be married to such "worldly unbelievers" because they cannot share the same spiritual goals.
this man recently had started to attend some meetings because his wife pretty much begged him to.

LOL at Min...... I went to a witness funeral about a month ago, and as a walked out I listened to people's reactions. There were several "worldy" ones there. I heard one lady say "10 mintues devoted to her, 30 minutes devoted to their religion. Did that seem weird to you?"
To which the other replied "Yeah, I go to church on Sunday, I dont need them trying to preach to me."
Interesting insight minimus. I always wondered if was more helpful or hurtful to the Worldlies :)

I drew alot of parallels between the Witnesses, and cults in general. A couple of tell-tell sign sof a cult are 1: Isolation. It was interesting to watch the gradual isolation of the group, similar how witness isolate themselves form the outside world. Not in the radical way that these people did, but by their encouragement to avoid contact with people who are not witnesses. 2: A progression of the fundementals of their beliefs. With this group, their fundementals progressed so severely that glasses were forbidden and one of the daughters was disowned for getting a pair. Buying gas was forbidden, "God" was supposed to reward their faith with gasoline (if taht were true I'd go back to church in a heartbeat:)). And then finally, the starvation of a child. 3: The belief in an eminate end of the world. These people believed that their tiny little group were the only ones who were going to survive the end of the world. Sound familar anyone?
So too Witnesses Fundementals has progressed more radically in later years (they like to call it new light)
Although this story, was very sad and a more drastic example of a cult, it was interesting some of the similarites
p.s. I missed the last 45 minutes due to a long distance phone call. What was the final outcome of the trial? Anyone?

An education is all about critical thinking skills. As I used to tell my students, I really don't care what your political beliefs are, as long as the essays you write support those beliefs by making claims that are backed up with evidence.
Sounds like Jankyn may know what their talking about. That's the way I learned.
p.s. what did/ do you teach?

Ahhh Troof, that sounds like waaaaaay too much work to have to go through just for cookies. Here's what I do:
1: Go to grocery store, buy the pillsbury roll
2: Take home, open package put on cookie tray and stick in oven
3: Take out of oven...... SCORE!!! Home made cookies for much less work :) *muah*

what is the fate of those who aren't preached to before Armageddon?
by True North inrecently i spoke with someone who says they were told that current jw teaching about those who aren't preached to before armageddon (in china, india, etc.
) is that such ones will be allowed a "second chance" in the "new order" (or "new system" or whatever it's called these days).
in reply, i said i found it unlikely that this would be their teaching and that if so it would mean that even from a jw perspective, people would be better off if they were never preached to.

did you cut out the back with a jigsaw
yep, jigsaw, scroll saw same thing :) Unfortunately I had to give up woodworking when I moved out since I no longer had a work shop.
My family owns an Antique store here in So Cal. They got started picking up great pieces at garage sales. I have a great little pitcher and glass plant holder (not sure what it is but I use it for holding plants) made out of Depression Glass that my unlce picked up at a garage sale for .65 cents. Antiques are a great investment if you know what you're looking for, unfortunately I dont know much about thme. I just teh difference between a Chippendale Foot and a Louis XV Foot. That's about it :)
