  the recent superstition thread got me to thinking.

  growing up i was terrified of "demons".

  sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories.

  Great posts from you all!!! It's funny how everyone always knows someone who knows someone that something happened to. I have afunny story about them rascally DeeeeeeMeeeeeennnnnzzz.

  There was a sister in my hall who was terribly paranoid and not in very good health. To warm her house she'd put a brick on top of the stove and turn the stove on. One day while she was in the shower her daughter came home and turned off the stove and left again. The sister got outta the shower and saw the stove had been turned off. She ran from the house only wearing her towel screaming "the demons turned off my stove"!!! She called my dad and several other elders to her house, and she refused to go back in. Her daughter showed back up and explained everything.

  What First Stumbled You?

  what was the very first thing that "stumbled" you?

  mine was: i was about 5 or 6 years old and of course i used to find it really hard to find things in my bible at meetings (couldn't find the books quick enough before they moved onto the next paragraph and used to get frustrated).

  i had the idea to make little tabs for the edges of the pages so i could tell where the books were - so i asked mum to help me neatly write out the book names on tiny slips of paper and tape them inside.

  when I too was 4 or 5, and reading the bible story book, I never could quite grasp the concept of perfection. For me it seemed that if Adam and Eve where CREATED perfect than how would they have had the ability to sin? Also, no one had sinned before them so how would they know what sin was and meant without having had a precidence set? Also I couldnt get past the fact that God would allow Billions of humans to die and suffer to prove a point to the devil.

  After that, there were too many things that stumbled me to mention. I just remember that always being in my head from a young age.

  The recent Superstition thread got me to thinking. Growing up I was terrified of "demons". Sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories. Everyone claimed to have had some sort of experience at some time, usually the women.I for one have never ever had any kind of demon problem. I have many things in my home as well that could be considered of "satanic" nature (dont freak out) and i've never been "bothered", in fact most of the time I sleep like a baby.

  Have any of you PERSONALLY been victim of a "demon attack"?

  A QUESTION FOR (EX) ELDERS

  did you take it easy, judicially speaking, on those with congregation responsiblities?

  were you extremely slow to remove anyone because no one wanted the additional work caused by a servant's absence?

  i know of some pretty crappy, ok, really crappy and unscriptural things done by ms's and elders that definitely called for removal, but the elders quickly swept it under the rug.

  My uncle was a PO who had a reputation for being VERY strict and not kind when it came to "discipline". Many people complained about him, but he had a longstanding reputation and did favors for other elders to get their family appointed to various positions. None of the rest of teh body of elders ever wanted to say anything because they were all too afriad to croos his path. The complaints went on for years.

  I had friends visiting from England one year and planned a day trip to Las Vegas. My uncle told my cousin who was 27 btw that he shouldnt go because Vegas was the "devil's playground". He called my dad and said the same thing. I ended up going anyway, with several ministerial servants and the PO of my own hall, who's daughter was my best friend. We got home very late that Saturday night/ Sunday morning. So I took my English friends to a later meeting at my Uncle's hall. My Uncle ran the Watchtower study, and from the platform publicly chastized me for taking my "christian" friends on an "unchristian" outting. Well I went home, told my dad, and also called me PO.

  My uncle was removed as an Elder shortly afterwards. I think it was just the final straw.

  you guys are too much!!!

  I loved Marlon Brando, what a legend. He was so mysterious. The younger thinner Brando was definently a HOT man. In a time when most of the girls had posters of Duran Duran on their walls I had his. And he was in one of my favorite movies. "STELLLLLLLLLLLLLLA!!!!!"

  I think I echo the general opinion that it goes for ALL races. Too many children are being raised in single homes. Too many women arent getting an education and instead are milking the system for free money, the men are abondoning their roles as fathers, and the kids are paying for it. Just because you are low income does not mean your children should raise themselves. When I was growing up I wasnt allowed to stay outside on the streets till dark, doing god knows what with god knows who. My mother knew where I was at and whom I was with and what I was doing (well mostly anyway) and I had RULES, and role models as to how a decent human being was supposed to act.

  Spencer gets mad at me sometimes because I give him rules. I always tell him it too bad, there are older kids out there that I dont know and I dont know how they're being raised, and he doesnt need to be around that.

  Cosby has always been a HUGE supporter of eductaion. Good for him. Unfortunately he made a blanket statement about blacks which I think is unfair. He does make GREAT point which should be directed at ALL races.

  there's a great book about the scrabble subculture called "word freak.

  " i read it last year because i was considering joining a local scrabble group.

  however, after reading the book, i realized i'm what the "word freaks" call a good living room player and nothing more.
