Man I caught hell in school regarding the flag salute. In the third grade my teacher brought me up in front of the class and told everyone that I didnt respect my country or appreciate being an American. Then she made everyone in the class tell me one thing they liked about America. I was humiliated. My dad went with me to talk to my teacher the next day. She was a real bitch. Then he told her he was a Korean and Vietnam Vet and had a brother who served during WWII. That shut her up. But yes I think from memory of a young child they laid it on pretty thick. By the time I got to highschool though the schools were much more relaxed.

What are Americans taught about U.S and what do you really believe?
by sleepy injust wondering what exactly americans (u.s.a) are taught about their country in school .do you really salute a flag, do you swear allegiance to the country.
are you taught that you fought for freedom, and that america is the land of the free, etc etc?

The stupidity of it all
by l3gi0n inwhy would i, or anyone believe that a god who expects me to be so anal with holidays, doesn?t care about all the other stuff.
the origins of easter are 3000 years old, children working in sweet shops, for big names like, thegap, and disney are today.. but god don?t care about them, he is more concerned with weather we celebrated the resurrection of the savior by giving our kids candy

What's Your Opinion Regarding Spanking A Child?
by minimus indo you think it is ever appropriate?
should it be illegal?
do you think the bible recommends doing this?

Personally, I think it only breeds resentment. I feel it is a primative response/coping mechanism. It is a loss of control in the spanker.
Amen to this!! I was spanked as a child, and whipped, and beat. When I would show my mother my bruises she would say 'good, when you look at those you remember what you did that made me have to hit you'. The problem is when I would look at those bruises that's NOT what I thought about, instead I let my heart start to feel hateful. I acted out even more because I resented her so much for it.
Spencer is 7 years old. He has never had a spanking in his life, and people constantly tell me how well behaved he is. I get complimented in public all the time for his manners and how well he minds. He respects me, and he's my best friend. I'm rarely angry with him or raise my voice, so when I do it's a BIG deal to him. He got a bad report from school not too long ago, I told him I didnt want to see him and sent him to his room to write an apology letter to his teachers. He fell to pieces crying so hard.
As for me, I was yelled at and screamed at, and slapped around so much as a child that I eventually started to tune out EVERYTHING they said.

p.s. just a side note about Jesus on the torture stake and using the word Nails as opposed to Nail, that seems a bit like splitting hairs in my opinion. One nail through both hands would have produced two holes, or two nails through each hand still would have produced two holes. Just my 2 cents, and we all know 2 cents wont buy you anything nowadays.

Oh Jared!!!! (((Jared))) Wonderful! Wonderful!! I am throroughly impressed. I think this is a GREAT letter. I appreciate that you do not direct any anger at them, and also note that you wouldnt think of asking them to leave their religion because you know how alone they would feel. And making a note that you're not using the things you dont agree with as a smoke screen for an immoral life. (that's just a perk j/k) You certainly have done much research. I hope they really do the research that you included. I wrote a similar letter to my mother. I found it about a year later while cleaning her house, she had indeed researched all the info I gave her, and found I was right. Unfortunately it wasnt enough to change her mind, but it was enough to soften her heart enough to have a relationship with me.
I sincerely hope your letter has a similar effect on your family. It is very well written. I'm proud of you for having the guts to stand up for what you think is right. BTW I will also be book marking this as a reference for new ones who ever ask me questions. I'm also happy to see that you did this on your own, and it shows that you know what you're talking about instead of being influenced by others.

I'd be careful where you get the film developed though, you might want to find an out of town place............
Send ME the film, I'll make sure to take EXTRA good care of it
