I have watched so much of the news in the last week, that I am burned out. Plus, we just lost a friend over the weekend to a heart attack. He was only 36. I think that is on my mind more lately.

I don't think it's a desire of mine anymore. But I do not want to die when I am 35 either.

Do you remember SPECIFIC CONVERSATIONS with householders from the field ministry?
by BonaFide ini have a few that i remember that were interesting.
of course, those that i supposedly helped.. but i also remember one man at an apartment.
i started to talk about the universe, and how the planets are aligned perfectly, and the earth is the perfect distance from the sun to support life.

Being a devout JW pioneer meant wearing the long flowing skirt with the sexiness of a housecoat for us sisters. So on a windy day in April, I went in door to door work in what appeared to be the territory with landscape resmbling the plains of Nebraska. My skirt inevitably flew up OVER my head. I spinned trying to get untangled in the gauzy fabric. But the damage was done; My 17 year old twiggy shaped ass graced it's presence to the entire cargroup of teenage boys, and my 72 year old male householder. On the bright side, I placed magazines. On the down side, I never went back.

I get rammy when I am nervous. I can't walk without tripping, things break, and I look like a flipping drunk.

Theocratic parental horror stories
by vikesgirl101 inso i am reading my new favorite book "i'm perfect, you're doomed" and the flashbacks have started.
this book is like my childhood all over again.
anywho, it reminded me of the horror stories my parents would create.

iamcleared: Just read your story, and I think it is amazing that you are so well adjusted. Very sad. You are right that we all have stories. Some are just worse than others.

stepchildren!!!
by fern inok, i just have to vent for a minute!
i have known these two teenage girls for six years now and in that time they have wiped buggars on my furniture and walls, pooped their pants and continued to deny they had done it and refused to clean up and change their clothes.
they also routinely get poo and menstrual blood on the toilet seat and don't clean it up until i make them.

Jamie always has the best advice, doesn't she?
I was actually very pleased to find this thread, because I have two daughters ages 8 and 13. My 13 year old can be very manipulative and selfish. My 8 year old has full grasp that she is the center of the universe. Actually the younger one is better. The reason I find this thread so interesting is that it made me realize that in my relationships with others (my boyfriend of 8 months) that parenting is tough. It could easily destroy a relationship of good potential.
So now I put myself in your husband's shoes, because I am that person. If my signifigant other came to me, complaining of petty problems, I may roll my eyes. But if I knew that it drained him emotionally, well then he would have my attention. I agree that you are not going to get far being the evil stepmom, and making extra rules. But your husband should realize that he is being walked on.
Two months ago my 13 year old pulled the garbage your stepchildren did. I walked into her room, and gave her a list. I said "You picked the wrong day to piss me off Missy..." Her punishment was she pays her cellphone bill. Any more attitude, and she spends the days I work with her overbearing grandfather. She has chores on a daily basis. Laying down the law and standing up was the best thing I did. She cried, she apologized, and ultimately, she changed.
A kick in the ass (hypothetically speaking) isn't always the worst thing. It reminds them that they are NOT in control. Coddling them will only encourage it.
JUST IMHO

Flipper: I just love your posts. It is like being wrapped in a big hug. I love how you acknowledge everyone on the board, and are so encouraging.
You are right, I did not have a choice; most of us didn't have a choice. We were born under the ill fate of being in a JW family. You are not allowed to question doctrines, or to choose a different path. A friend of mine told me that some stricter religions allow their teenagers to have one year to decide what path to follow. I think it was Menonites, but I am not sure. There are no questions asked, as to what they decide in the end. I wish my fade could have been that pleasant. It is easy to feel like a hideous beast when your blood relatives scatter like termites, afraid that they might catch "The Apostate diesease" if they acknowlege you.
As far as the overdose, I learned that suicidal tendancies are common in people trying to leave the BORG. I choose to count it as a rite of passage, at this point, and a dark time that is to be overcome. No use wallowing in it. Life is too splendid to not enjoy to the fullest!!

I do not doubt for a single moment this poster's story. I believe it did happen. It happened to me as well. There was no brushing it under the rug. I had two THREE hour meetings (that is six hours!!) of questioning. They wanted ALL DETAILS!!
I have talked to other ministrers, pastors, and etc in recent months. They were mortified by this. They also felt it was extremely inappropriate. That is the way I feel too.
Sorry for your bad expeience.

“One of the things that Jehovah’s Witnesses are known for is the love among them
Until you do or say something out of line. Especially doubting or asking too many questions. Then you're kicked to the curb.
Heaven: Amen to that! That is exactly what I was thinking.
