I've had a few friend requests from JWs I knew from where I grew up. They are all still active so I refuse to add them as friends for this exact reason. I don't want anything incriminating to get back to anyone.

Elders Trash Face Book
by sammielee24 injust found out that elders and spies are trolling face book and my space.
some elders in xxx congregation began trolling face book looking for wayward souls and using the links to other friends etc to get more info.
they waited until they had enough ammo on the 'friends' and then printed off some of the conversations being had....questioned the 'friends' who of course denied everything..and then they produced the printed copies to catch them in the lies.

QUESTION TO JW REGARDING THE DOCTRINE OF 144,000
by Celestialfrontier ini am not a jehovah's witness, and until yesturday i never knew the beliefs of your congregation.
when i did finally read them, i was amazed to discover that most of what the lord has revealed to me as truth, through my prayers and studies, is found in your beliefs.
and out of all the christian denominations that exist, "most" of your beliefs are according to the word of god, unlike the other churches.. .

Selling Sacramento, CA Convention Deal to Skeptical Public
by dannyboy ini live near sacramento, ca and earlier this week the local convention authority held a big deal press conference announcing a "deal" with jehovah's witnesses (see clip below).
based on comments to local news media on their websites, more than a few people are not too crazy about the idea..... i heard an interview on a local station where the head guy [of the convention authority] was defending (sounded very defensive) the city's deal with the dubs, by saying "well, they'll bring hotel dollars, food dollars, and they'll be visiting all of our local museums, evening life, and entertainment attractions.....so the monetary impact will be huge for us...".
specifically discouraged from doing any of those "extra" things..... hope those attractions aren't hiring more employees to handle the witness "crowds"........ also, during the interview, he said that the convention authority would be able to select the dates for the various conventions.

Personally I can't see them relaxing on the college thing. They did that in the mid 90s and soon reversed it when the pioneer numbers fell and fewer brothers were "reaching out".
If you asked them in 2003 if they could imagine having 2 versions of the watchtower and no book studies I doubt many could have done. I know I couldn't have! In some ways its very difficult to imagine what they will be like in 6 years but I agree with the being more restrictive on what you can and can't do.

The toll on women..
by freedomisntfree inthis has probably already been discussed to some degree on here.
but i think its probably a commonly noticed thing that jehovahs witness women and becoming more and more unstable mentally and physically as a whole.
they seem to suffer from a bizzarely high percentage of scent sensitivities, chronis fatigue syndrome and the like.are they making it up for attention?

This is so true. I consider myself as an intelligent, kind person who is ok looking yet in all my time of being a witless never had any interest from guys. I've now worked it out that due to my intelligence, career and earnings they were all threatened. Somehow I threatened their masculinity as catering for their needs only went as far as cooking and cleaning!

Not sure how much you know about JWs but sex out of marriage is a no-no. If he doesn't get divorced now before he signs his life away he needs to get a scriptural divorce to remain in good standing with them. This is only through a divorce for adultery comitted by the spouse.
If you get a divorce for any reason not for adultery when you're a JW you get into trouble so this is why he's wanting one now.
Welcome to the board. can you please let us know if you have any children with your husband. If you do we can give you advice on how to handle this.

Maybe I'm getting confused here but is it possible that the article in the Awake about freedom in choosing your religion is somehow connected to all this.
I'm sure I read earlier that their participation in these is to promote UN ideas so maybe the article was to keep them in with their "friends" at OSCE.
Then again I may be completely wrong about this! Either way it doesn't ring true with their supposed neutrality.

WHERE in the bible does it say each creative day was 6,000 years? Ending around 1975??
by Witness 007 incould be 8,000 or 18,000 years long......if to jehovah each "a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years a day.
" 1975 armagedon theory was based on this.
{notice how this theory has since died off} my wife was told off by an elder for giving a talk on "creative days not 24 hours" but not stating each was 6,000 years long...she said she didn't believe it....he backed off and said okay then!

Wow! Awakes were hard to read back then! Talk about the dumbing down of the magazines when you compare them to now.
I remember hearing about the 1975 thing from my dad but I never realised how much focus it got in the publications back then.

Therapy?
by BirdFood ini was just curious how many ex-jw's are in therapy to work through the shunning, family issues, bad experiences while still in, etc.
i go every other week, and sometimes i feel like it's helpful, and other times i feel like it doesn't really change anything and wonder if it's even worth going.
it's not horrible, but it's not really enjoyable to go either and sometimes i feel like my therapist just doesn't understand the manitude of the situation.

When I was in and being treated with medicine for depression my GP wanted me to go to see a counsellor. I refused to go as I knew that I was depressed from being a JW and what was going on. I didn't want to have to listen to them tell me I should leave as I knew that they tell you to get out of whatever is causing you to feel a certain way.
Now that I'm out I think that therapy of some sort could help but recently I made the first big step and told a friend that I used to be a JW and that it was a very negative experience. Personally, coming on this board and mainly reading has been a big help. No therapist can truly understand what being a JW does to someone......
