Can JW's run the New System without worldly people?
by moshe inhttp://www.history.com/content/life_after_people/about-the-series.
i get a chuckle when i watch that show on tuesday nights as it portrays what would happen the the world, if people should all dissapear.
since jw's are only 2/10% of the world's population and almost zero% in many countries the infrastructure would rapidly decay.

oh! and lets not forget the infamous Youth book! or as we used to call it " the red youth book" because every youth that had to read it in public or answer up got very red in the face. Those awfull sex chapters! No one would answer up in them at all! It would be left to the book study conductor to answer the questions and or his loyal wife, who i guess either felt sorry for him or knew she would be in for it later if she didn't help out.
Is it my imagineation? Or did the GB manage to make sex sound like the most revolting awful thing you could ever do?

I'm with aeiouy on this one, i hated the Isaiah books! every chapter was exactly the same as the privous! And i used to look and the scriptures cited in bold ( very small amount of writing) next to the huge paragraphs that explained what it all meant. I used to think " how can you read soooo much into sooo little?"
I also started to notice the GB worship in the Isaiah books too, every chapter, practiculay every paragraph went on and on about 1919, gods chosen ones etc etc...
............. These days i read Jackie collins.... much better!;) hehehe

Given the up coming season i thought this would be a good disscussion.
Do you belive that Jesus was real? the son of god?
A religous cruesader of his day?
A collection of myths and legends put together by wishfull thinking?
i myself tend towards to latter , but i'm very interested in the thoughts and opionions of everyone else on this one...?

Worst Witness Wedding Experience?
by spawn inwe went to oz for a wedding of a brother and sister from the sydney bethel.
it was the most bizzare wedding of all time, the cake was a multi coloured telitubby creation and the veggie food option was baby octopus and squid, the alcohol was free flowing and all bethelites in attendance took full advantage.
we were sat listening to the speaches and it was getting rowdier and rowdier and some of the language was rather unscriptual to say the least, as it was mixed jw and non jw we were surprised to find that all of this noise came from the bethelites.

dissed: that brings back another memory of a JW bride and groom who went missing as soon as they got to the reception, the speeches and everything were done without them being there!!

oh yes i'd forgotten all about the old jw wedding food poisioning! I can name 5 weddngs where this happened. I guess thats what happens when you don't hire proper caterers with fridges etc. I know of one wedding where all the donated food was set out ready for the guests to chose from.... 24 hrs in advence! On a hot summers day! By the time the guests got to it, it was samonella waiting to happen!

what always struck me as odd about JW weddings is that the talk was always a recruitment drive in disguise! there were never any readings from freinds or family, and the prayers hardly ever featured the bride and groom. Of course alot of the emphasis was on the bride being submissive etc etc letting the husband be the head.... have these people any idea what they look like to outsiders!?!

who knew a wife who was in a domestic violence situation while a jw
by looloo ini knew a girl who got married at 19 despite objections from the elders , they got disfellowshipped and reinstated after 18 months , he chose her clothes and would not allow her any money , he insisted on doing the food shopping with her , he hit her if tea was not on the table when he returned from work , he broke her nose once when she was holding her 2 year old child , when she approached the elders , onesaid to her "what are you complaining about ,he hasnt broke every bone in your body , there are sisters who put up with much worse !
if a jw man is not supposed to be violent why would they not give him a telling off ?.

yes i knew of a sister who was beaten every day by her husband. the elders wanted to protect the husband because he was the more valueble to the congo. So they told her to be more submissive, be a better wife etc. When she ran away with their children because the children were getting traumatised at seeing mummy beaten up every night, she was demonised by her congo, and the husband seen as the vitim.
In fact it was only her worldly family that stood by her and helped out... Brotherly love indeed(!)
