Never mind the assembly prayers, the prayers in my cong by the PO used to be about 15mins long, not so much a recap but a whole other meeting. I would look about and see people had long since given up standing up or pretending to pray.

The longest prayer you had ever endured.
by african GB Member infrom personal experience i know it usually happens at the end of a district convention.
it would be either the do, co or an experienced elder.. they usually go through everything that was said throughout the dc and thank jehovah for this and that...... last year i used my stop watch to record the time taken by our do,.
by the time he said amen!

"Jehovah has really blessed me."
by stillin ini was at dinner with witness friends last night when one of the guys started that up.
i kept my mouth shut, let him have his say for a while; it's good to feel gratitude and i'm glad for him that he feels so blessed, but never, even in my most "spiritually healthy" days have i boasted like that.
finally, i spoke up with "how do you think that makes me, almost unemployed and struggling these days, feel?

Stillin: i've so totaly been where you are right now. Ok heres the real deal... God has not blessed this jerk, hes just got lucky, you are not a lesser person or even a bad person, your someone who is involved in a cult that thrives on making people feel not good enough.
My responce would have been to cite the example of someone in the world whose doing well and comment that Jehovah must be really blessing them(!)

A.fenderson: yes alongside partaking of the crackers and wine at the memorial the other thing dubs are terrifiled of is people throwing confetti!
... you would think Jehovah would be able to protect them but............. evidently he can't protect them against small thin coloured bits of paper!!!

throughout my life i saw the self righteous elite dubs treat me and those below them like scum. The result was they were "blessed by Jehovah" it would seem, they got within the org whatever they wanted.
Me who tried despartly hard to keep going dispite huge barriers was never blessed at all.
I seemed to me that Jehovah blesses those who treat others badly, so long as they put x amount of hours on their report slip its ok.
I realised then that he wasn't real

I've attended many JW weddings, the greater part of the wedding talk is always about how the wife should be obediant to her husband, follow his lead and do whatever he says. Hardly anything is said about the husbands responsiblites to his wife. the rest of it is filled up with sales talk for the benifit of any non dubs that might be there.
and of course theres always the annocement about no confetti

Do you think it's possible being a witness can kill a person?
by The Finger ina close relative of mine just before he died claimed it was being a witness that was partially responsible for his death (leaving aside the blood issue).

not exactly kill someone, but it could certainly shorten their life span. In fact i do wonder what the average age of death of jw's is?
The lifestyle of seeing everying negitivly, never taking a break, working for a wage and then double working for a cult, sitting in a kingdom hall with half the people projecting their germs over you, living in poverty with no means to buy nutrious food. Yes all of that can and has been well documented that it shortens the human life span.
Not to mention that the JW's wouldn't mind dying in this "system" so that they can wake up in "paradise"
The body in a funny thing, if you tell it you want to die, thats what can happen.

A question for all JWs, regarding women
by dgp inmy reason to ask this question was another thread by highdose, on whether people felt sorry for subjugated women in the organization.. with all the advances that women have undoubtedly made, is there any well-hidden anger among the sisters, for the role they have to play?
are there any complaints about it?
do you see the society responding to those complaints as, say, the catholic church sort of has, by allowing women to give the host at mass?

i can remember having a convo with an elderette and several sisters. I clearly argued that 1) theres nothing in the bible to say that sisters can't wear trousers, 2) in the bible days men wore dresses! 3) that trousers are not considered to be mens clothing only in the world and haven't been for some time, therefore 4) there was no reason at all what so ever for sisters to wear only skirts and dresses.
None of them could argue with it, they just stood there silent, until the elderette said " yes but the dear brothers take such good care of us, so i wouldn't go encourging sisters to wear trousers as it might make them want to take over from the brothers!"

Were you told to avoid telling HH's that they would be killed unless they listened?
by highdose inone of the many things as a child growing up as a jw that i never understood was this: a elderette told me her husband would be going to see the non jw freind of one of their sons.
it seems that the freind had directly challenged the jw son and asked " are you telling me that if i don't become a jw that god will kill me?".
the son hadn't known what to say to this, bearing in mind of course that the jw belief is "yes you will die at armargeddon if you don't become a jw".

DGP:the JW answer to your questions is: Don't ask those questions! Its not your place to question and that Jehovah will look into their hearts to see if their heart condition is right.... In which case what was the point of flogging all those magazines to them?!!? ... Like i said don't question!

When will we have Armageddon, according to the last new light?
by dgp ini'm just curious: has the watchtower said when we will have armageddon, or they are avoiding to give any date, or are they avoiding noticing that all the signs are there to suggest that there is a specific date we should look forward to?
any dates?.

DGP:when i was a little girl, i was told that armargedon was just around the corner and that i would never go to primary school.
As a older child, i was told that armargeddon was about to happen and that i would never get to go to secondry school.
as a teenager i was told we were in the end of the last days and to prepare ourselves for our immenant salvation, and btw what was i doing therefore going to collage?!?
as a adultestant i was told that nearly all the signs were completed, and why therefore was i at Uni?!?!?
As a full adult i was told again that it was a matter of a year or two perhaps, and what was i doing therefore earning a living when i could be out pioneering?!?!!?
At the age i am now, i accept that armargeddon is like the proverbial bogey man, somthing of myth and legend that will never happen!
