VioletAnai,
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but--committed to WHAT exactly?
ok, to you guys it's no big deal...but to someone who is still studying with the witnesses, it's a big step.. you're officially one of my favourites!!!
now that's committment!!
and i'm so good at it .
VioletAnai,
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but--committed to WHAT exactly?
hello...i hope this is the proper place to pose my question.. i've been meeting with a fine jw couple for several months now and i have attended meetings with them twice at the kingdom hall.
a large segment of the congregation were people of color and it also seems that whenever i meet a jw on the street, they are more often than not african-american.
i was wondering if there was some explanation for this, or is just coincidence?
I would like to thank everyone for their responses to my question. I don't know much about the faith, so I didn't recognize the appeal to the underprivileged and lonely and it wasn't exactly a question I could ask the kind older couple who teach me. I live in Pittsburgh, and the Kingdom Hall I attended isn't right in the city, but it is in a very close suburb.
Anyway, what you all had to say made a lot of sense. I have lots of questions about how things REALLY work, and the little book "What Does God Require Of Us?" doesn't have many answers, and I don't have the time to actively investigate by getting involved with the people. I am so interested in what it's like for people who convert to or leave any religion, changing their lives so drastically and adopting a new perception of reality and outlook on life.
Adonai438, I would be glad to chat with you anytime. What faith did you adopt after leaving the JWs? What do you believe now?

And just so all the bitter ex-Witnesses don't feel like they need to save me from the "borg," I'm not planning to attend any more meetings and I never considered converting. I am a happy, well-adjusted Latter-day Saint. My reason for meeting with the JWs is to understand the people and the belief system better. I haven't told the couple I meet with about my faith...I wonder how they'd react to find out I'm Mormon....
Anyhow, thanks in advance for any light you can shed on my question about the racial make-up of the congregation.
