Why the JWs must get EVERYTHING right
by bluecanary insome feel that it is enough for the witnesses to understand a few major doctrines correctly.
whatever doctrines are important to you--trinity, hellfire, the soul, etc--if the jws are in agreement with your own beliefs on the subject, is that enough to make them a religion worth being a part of?.
the society is fond of using the illustration of a beautifully prepared, tasty and nutritious meal.

The options are not just between dog doodoo and a lovely, but poisonous meal. Would being presented with those two choices prompt you to eat the poison? Would you not sooner seek out a new menu or prepare your own meal or just go hungry?

lol when I look at trinitarian doctrines it's a meal of mostly dog doodooes with maybe a piece of carrot on the side.
I believe that the disrespect the WTS has shown for the sanctity of life (blood doctrine, alternative service, etc) is a far greater affront to God and Jesus than overestimating the divinity of Jesus. Your opinion of the importance of the trinity over the importance of other doctrines is just that: an opinion. Unless you can prove biblically that believing that Jesus is subordinate to God is of greater importance than obeying the two commands that Jesus said were most important (love of God and neighbor, which necessarily assumes respect for life). Jesus made a far bigger deal over the importance of mercy over sacrifice than he did over his status as a divine being.
Special Pleading is a fallacy in which a person applies standards, principles, rules, etc, to others while taking themselves (or those they have special interest in) to be exempt.

NWT - Accurately translated bible rumor
by Girlie inhas anyone on here heard of this rumor or even know if this is true?
supposedly, on an episode of jeopardy, one of the questions asked was which version of the bible was considered the most accurately translated from the original hebrew and greek text and the answer was the new world translation.
i tried looking this up online to no avail.

PS, since no one got the question correct, no money was awarded. Do unanswered questions affect game play?

Remember Jehovah in the Days of Your Youth REDUX
by Farkel in"remember jehovah in the days of your youth".
this was a list of my experiences as a young dub that i penned about a dozen years ago.. it was based on the theme in the watchtower article referenced below that i remember reading all that many years ago.. *** w71 6/15 367 remembering your creator in the days of your young manhood ***.
12:1.. the sole purpose of the article was to convince young people to dedicate their younger years to preaching for the watchtower bible and tract society and practicing their policies and doctrines at all times.. many people who become jws as adults, and later leave, have at least some "normal" remembrances of a "traditional" childhood.

Then there was this Watchtower stuff about "Jehovah's Witnesses don't need holidays to be generous. They do it all year around," is a total bunch of crap from my personal exeriences. It never happened for me, and it never happened for any of my young Witness friends, either.
I never minded that I didn't get Christmas or Birthday presents. I did hate that we told this lie. What would have been wrong with following through on it?

Some feel that it is enough for the witnesses to understand a few major doctrines correctly. Whatever doctrines are important to you--trinity, hellfire, the soul, etc--if the JWs are in agreement with your own beliefs on the subject, is that enough to make them a religion worth being a part of?
The Society is fond of using the illustration of a beautifully prepared, tasty and nutritious meal. As you are seated before this meal, your host warns you that a few drops of deadly poison were included with the ingredients. Would you eat the meal?
If this illustration can be applied to other religions, why would it not be appropriate to apply it to the witnesses? If the main body of teachings is correct (debatable, but please, not on this thread) is it acceptable to swallow that which is wrong, bad or dangerous?
Is just being aware that the poison is present enough? Or must steps be taken to remove it? If the poison cannot be removed, what should be done with the meal?
Using the witnesses' own standards, everything they offer must be pure and true or none of it is of value. If some of the "lesser" teachings of JWs are false, of what worth are the others? If it is alright to ignore false teachings in favor of true, then there is no reason this cannot be applied to other religions that have the "important doctrines" correct.
I have heard this illustration used from the platform multiple times. I believe it is also in writing but I do not have access to an updated cd-rom right now. If anyone can post a reference, I would appreciate it.

Penetrating the Deepest Level- "Jehovah" is God
by OnTheWayOut inhaving been there, most of us can see that the idea that "jehovah" is god, and a group that uses the name and even carries the name as a badge of honor (jehovah's witnesses) have a very deep level of belief in the religion and that virtually anything that tries to upset the belief causes great cognitive dissonance.
to even suggest that witnesses of [the named god] are wrong is just so heavy on their dissonance.
to suggest that a group of people that carries the name of their god are misleading is like suggesting that everything they know is wrong, gravity doesn't exist, up is down, the sun exploded.

"If you want to question God or the Bible, then there isn't any point to this discussion" is my wife's answer to such challenges.
What's going to happen if she runs into a Buddhist or a Muslim at the doors? Is she prepared to establish common ground with them and convince them that the Bible is worth listening to? Perhaps, for anyone who wants to go this route, you can offer to help your jw practice their witnessing skills by pretending to be someone from an eastern or pagan or other non-Bible-centric religion.

However, I have observed the effects of Jehovah's Unholy Spirit in putting up an absolutely impenetrable barrier between me and the opposite sex.
That's a funny word for B.O.
j/k
I'm obviously not an elder, but the day I stopped believing the b0rg had HS was the day I walked. It took a lot of crap for me to be sure. But I went all the way to the top and called Bethel only to be told, "Just do whatever the elders tell you. They've never been known to steer anyone wrong."
