Why is the US so afraid of Social Health Care?

i just don't get why the us is so afraid of social health care, and is so opposed to the canadian and british models.

the plain fact is that there are far more americans without access to health care than the combined populations of sweden, norway, denmark and finland.. a measure of the maturity of any society has to be how it sees fit to re-apportion its wealth.. we are quick to criticise african leaders who line their own pockets but leave the masses in poverty but cannot see that blindly following capitalist principles is much the same.

if we live in a wealthy society then part of that wealth has to be put back into society as a whole.. .

Our Blue Cross medical insurance costs us $1200.00 a month. I'd gladly pay a couple hundred bucks a month for a good national plan. Why not just expand the medical plan the US Senators have.

: theos).. jws keep rabbiting on ad nauseum about the trinity teaching being "irrational", "impossible to understand", etc.. i do not want this thread to be about the trinitarian doctrine.. i want to be given an explanation of what a jw believes.

i have seen so many arrows and spears thrown by jws, i want to know exactly what they are defending.. i want to see an explanation of "god" that is rational and can be understood.. doug.

As said JW theology is not that complicated. They never got off into things like the Nestorian controversy.

To them the Son of God came to earth and in that process became 100% human and when he died he was 100% dead and came to life as a divine being .

JW theology: Jehovah says love me or you will be dead forever at some point.

Baptist theology: God says love me or I will torture you for all eternity. (swell guy)

the WBTS Vs Self help book

just an insight i thought i'd share with you all.

while in the borg i read a self help book ( was trying to undone some of the constant damage being done to me mentaly) the book was interesting in that it quoted a scripture, " love thy neighbour as thy self", it pointed out that this is actualy a comand to love ourselves, since it serves as a standard for which to love others.. this point really jumped out at me since it was totaly true.

but... then i started questioning why is it that the wbts have never brought this scripture out like this?

I have seen more progress in coming to terms with some trajedy or compulsion, or setting a life goal when a person takes advantage of some counseling whether its been from a book or counselor. Maybe because its more specific, or the issues are fully addressed.

Anyway, it seems to work well for Witnesses who go that extra step or anyone else for that matter.

Sermons or Public Talks could reach that level of personalization and motivation with the right nuance and style. Something beyond 'be good' or 'do more for your religion'.

Up until they started giving it away it was a pretty good cash cow. One billion a year wasn't to shabby, probably fallen way off in the past few years although there was a push to get individuals estates to bequeath the family jewels to the Society, remember those short articles that would appear every so often.

It small potatoes compared to many mainline groups like the Baptists and Presbyterians who have annual revenue in excess of 10 Billion.

androb......your're right, we can't put off to future generations what needs to be taken care of today, hunger is today's problem.

What you guys are doing is what the Society often does- argue against phantom positions. It would be like when a JW argues that in the Trinity you have God dead.

Agree or disagree with their theology but argue correctly. Sac- did you mean to quote the 1899 Vol. V or paraphrase, what you showed is not what appears on page 454. Points 1-4 are not well thought out. Theology in general is not a difficult science, mostly a waste of time when efforts are needed in the humanities and environment.

Better to be a good steward of planet earth.
