  "Nature" is the result of the evolutionary process. What sense does it make in fighting the result of the very process which developed life on this planet?

  That something happens in nature doesn't make it good (ask any patient with an infectuous disease).

  
  I did not say it was good, I said that this process has been considered beneficial, good for the species.

  Scientists believe we can make it better for ourselves through the abilities evolution has gives us.

  
  Maybe there are greater abilities to come from evolution if scientists would just let evolution continue on its natual course.

  It is a massive non sequitur that evolution is powerful, ergo we should leave everything to evolution. Gravity is powerful, too, but that doesn't make it "contrary to nature" to make planes.

  
  Jan, I did not say that evolution was powerful, I said it was a process which has proven to work well, so well that it is hailed as the very cause of our being! Airplanes work along with the natural laws of nature not contrary to them. Immunization works against the natural processes of evolution, it short circuits it.

  My point is, mankind may be harming his natural ability to evolve a better, more perfect immune system by applying these quick fixes. Scientists who believe in evolution should have faith enough in it to trust that natural selection is the better way to go rather than thwarting this process by using immunization which saves the individual but does not produce a better, stronger species.

  Evolution requires some sort of evolutionary pressure. There must be a survival advantage to any improvement, so offspring with the new trait will be more successful in the 'gene pool'. With humans being so successfull in using science and medicine to secure the survival of their kids, I can hardly imagine what significant evolutionary change could happen to us.

  That was the very point I was leading to. If evolution is the "father" of the various life forms on this planet along with their synecology, beauty and power, why do scientists not rely on it, in other words, let evolution do its thing?

  As an example, vaccines. Could there have been among the millions who have been vaccinated for small pox someone whose immune system, if left alone to combat the full blown disease, might have produced a genetic cure? One that would have eventually produced humans who were not only immune to small pox but also may have had immunity to AIDS and Cancer?

  Why doesn't science let evolution continue to work out the problems of sustaining life on earth, and let the communicable disease chips fall where they may? Some would say, why should we let millions die when we have the ability to save them. Yet, in the evolutionary process whole branches of species have died off and this has been hailed as a good thing, a necessary thing for the advancement of that species in general. Why should man be different? Could mankind be harming his own species by not allowing the natural evolutionary processes to continue as they have for millions of years?

  Maybe man's science will in the end produce his own downfall because scientific reliance on quick fixes in a world where fixes, good fixes, have always come very slowly is not "normal".

  Island Woman, with legs in excess of 3' long and 6'6" high, I have done a fair amount of walking you could say in my life, ummmmm, quite a few thousand miles on more than one occassion, does that answer your question?

  Why do us men do all the bad stuff?

  it seams to me that through out history men have allways commited the worst crimes against humanity.. from despot rulers to serial killers and petty crime , men do the most.. yet to me it seams that on a personnal level men get on better with each other than women.. women are often very senseitive and take offence much more easily.. they can be very bitchy and manipulative.. often men will have an aurgument with a friend and the next day all will be forgotten , while a women can take years to forgive.. so what is it about mens psychology that makes them commit worse crimes than women?.

  or it there just the fact that they are physicaly stronger?.

  i wonder that if in the future , women are in positions of power more that they will act worse than men have, or if they will show more compassion for others?

  Why? An ingrained predatory nature left over from their pre-Homo sapien days! Maybe someday they will catch up with the only true Homo sapiens, women!

  Quality of this Forum

  just a quick thought - i am a firm believer in freedom of speech etc, but having been on this forum for some time i honestly can't say that i can introduce a doubting jw interested in true christianity to this board.

  some of the deep discussions on jw doctrine are excellent, but everything else seems to be nonsense in my opinion.

  why can't this site be more like the old www.witnesses.net which seemed to have more spiritual meat rather than backbiting, gossip, and rumour and even obscenity.. sorry for my frank opinion

  What you say is true. But it is also true that the U.S. needs mideast oil. I believe that if the Arab states REALLY wanted to they could help their brothers. What will the U.S. do? Bomb Saudi oil fields? Hardly!

  IMO, the problem is one of hidden agendas between the Arab Governments and the U.S. My point was that the Palestinians should be angry with their "brothers" who do not openly support them rather than with the U.S. who does openly support Israel. The U.S. has chosen to be a brother of sorts to Israel, the Arab states have not openly with troops etc. supported "their" brothers.

  I feel deeply for the Palestinians. They should demand that their so called fellow Arab brothers put their money where their mouth is and openly support the Palestinians by providing troops!

  Then Israel and the U.S. will listen!!!
