Circuit Overseers and Corruption
by MARTINLEYSHON inas an ex presiding overseer and public affairs spokesperson who is now disfellowshipped!!!
i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.
during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.

Hi Martin,
My husband was also a PO and was assigned parts at the assemblies but never under the circumstances you describe. There were a few COs who never should have had the job, but for the most the brothers we came to know were sincere.
We are not long out, so this isn't ancient history!
In fact there were quite a few who went out of their way to show us kindness at a time when we really needed it, and this when my husband was not an elder.
Just wanted to add our experiences.

A Plea For Responsible Reporting
by hillary_step inmany hundreds of people read this site who are not subscribed, and i would suspect that the vast majority are jw's looking for answers to an internal turmoil that they may be living with.. the information posted on this board does get read and then passed among many congregations of jw's.
this information is a powerful force and is a wonderful thing for those who are seeking to be informed, and a not so wonderful thing to those in brooklyn who are seeking to harness the boundaries of knowledge.. given this scenario, and how much credibility can be lost by xjw's who perpetuate gossip and innuendo, can we check our sources and facts very carefully before we post information to this board.
there is no particular nobility in being first with news about some aspect of wts life.

RR,
Sorry about the mix up between the "Watchtower" and the "Studies in the Scriptures."
Thanks for the exact quote though!
"Furthermore, not only do we find that people cannot see the Divine Plan in studying the Bible by itself, but we see, also, that if anyone lays the SCRIPTURE STUDIES aside, even after he has used them, after he has become familiar with them, after he has read them for ten years —if he then lays them aside and ignores them and goes to the Bible alone, though he has understood his Bible for ten years, our experience shows that within two years he goes into darkness. On the other hand, if he had merely read the SCRIPTURE STUDIES with their references and had not read a page of the Bible, as such, he would be in the light at the end of the two years, because he would have the light of the Scriptures."
Appreciate that quote RR! I've read parts of the "Studies in the Scripures", could not stomach the whole thing. That's why the Watchtower Society no longer prints it.
BTW, your renaming me "Islandgirl" says more about you and your religion than anything "I" could have ever said!
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
Also, did you ever read the quote about the GB! Yes, they are still alive in the Watchtower literature!

P.S. It's never a good idea to "worship" any man!

PRICE OF CONSCIENCE
Whether we like it or not, moral challenge affects each of us. It is one of life's bittersweet ingredients from which there is no successful escape. It has the power to enrich us or impoverish us, to determine the true quality of our relationships with those who know us. It all depends on our response to that challenge. The choice is ours - it is seldom an easy one.
We have the option, of course, of surrounding our conscience with a sort of cocoon of complacency, passively "going along," shielding our inner feelings from whatever might disturb them. When issues arise, rather than take a stand we can in effect say, "I'll just sit this one out; others may be affected--even hurt--but I am not." Some spend their whole life in a morally 'sitting' posture. But, when all is said and done, and when life finally draws near its close, it would seem that the one who can say, "At least I stood for something," must feel greater satisfaction than the one who rarely stood for anything.
Sometimes we may wonder if people of deep conviction have become a vanishing race, something we read about in the past but see little of in the present. Most of us find it fairly easy to act in good conscience so long as the things at stake are minor. The more that is involved, the higher the cost, the harder it becomes to resolve questions of conscience, to make a moral judgment and accept its consequences. When the cost is very great we find ourselves at a moral crossroads situation, facing a genuine crisis in our lives.
This book is about that kind of crisis, the way people are facing up to it and the effect on their lives."

HS,
"Responsible Reporting"? HERE??
Too much to expect! The mix is too varied and the desire to "mix" too strong.
It will remain as it is. It is not a place most active JWs would feel remotely comfortable lurking and I know many have turned away from here; too much negative behavior which has enforced what they have been taught by the Watchtower.
The "C Channel" is much better suited for active JWs!!
