i feel that the apostate's claims that rutherford was a drunk to be far fetched.

on the one hand, they claim that he was so drunk that the brothers at bethel shipped him to san diego to beth sarim, where he stayed drunk out of his mind, then on the other hand, they claimed that he ruled the society with an iron fist, that he was a dictator.

no drunk could have ruled the society like a dictator.

I have never read that Nixon was a drunk. There is a difference between a 'drunk' and an alcoholic. All drunks are alcoholics, but not all alcoholics are drunks. Have you ever seen someone drunk? I am not talking about a 'buzz' or a 'warm fuzzy', I am talking about 'drunk', which means intoxication above the legal limit...out of control. This is what Rutherford has been accused of. Even if Rutherford drank fifty beers at one setting but maintained, and did not change his mood or behavior he could not be called 'drunk'. Drunks cannot maintain their behavior nor control their mood changes, although some first stage alcoholics can. So, I feel that the name 'drunk' is an unfair title given to Rutherford even if he may have been an alcoholic.

James Penton said that Rutherford was an alcoholic and there are accusations that Rutherford was a drunk on various exJW web sites. The name 'Booze Rutherford' is popular among ex-witnesses and there are essays that accuse him of being a drunk. Haven't you read them?

you all call each other apostates, so why should you all get upset if i call you apostates?

if you don't like being called 'apostate', what title would you prefer?

It is a tragedy to see the pain of the lost souls on this board. Everything that we have been warned of by the Society about leaving Jehovah, comes out and smacks you in the face on this board. It seems to me that a great number of people got on the net, read the ex-JW sites and said 'That's it! This isn't the truth!' Many brothers and sisters took a year or two studying before they got baptised, and it would make sense that people should take at least half that time before they make a decision to leave the truth. Many on here had close relationships with Jehovah and then one, 'POOF!'...no more! That course of action will cause nothing but pain.

i'm grateful for the friends i've made here and hope to continue relationships with them however this board has reached the 'more harmful than good' stage for me as well so i'm going to have to move on.

i've recently began re-question my decision to leave the jw's and have been wondering if we arent all really screwed up as is believed to be the case by jw's.

i need to go back and re-read all the exjw literature to prove to myself all over again that we are normal and ok and victims of a fraudulent cult.

After having a hope and friends in the truth, I can imagine that leaving the organization can leave one feeling empty. Why don't you discuss with the brothers some of your doubts? They can help you with any lingering doubts you might have. There is a bunch of information in the ex-JW community, and it hits 'big and hard'. It focuses on only the negative regarding Jehovah's witnesses and it is in itself a form of 'brainwashing'. You can take this information and come out of it a stronger witness, you have had your faith tested, or you can fall away completely and in time become an atheist or agnostic with no hope. But whatever you do, you should think it through and pray on it, don't make rash decisions. I wish you the best!

When Reagan was running for President, he made his famous speach how a soldier making less than a cook at McDonalds, was responsible for operating a piece of equipment that cost millions of dollars. His point was correct, and America increased it's military spending when Reagan was elelcted. Naturally, the Soviets had to 'keep up with the Jones', but this proved difficult for them in the eighties, because the Soviets had spent their gold reserves on their military build up in the seventies. I agree with JanH. If the Soviet Union collasped because it was afraid of Reagan, why didn't it collapse when Kennedy threatened to use nuclear bombs during the 'Cuban Missle Crisis'? By the time Reagan became President, the Soviet Union was broke, and remember, unlike America, they couldn't borrow money from the World Bank to bail them out.

Witness teens /mental health probs in future?

there was a very interesting programme on radio4 this afternoon-dealing with teenagers and their possible problems.. i feel that many witness teens maybe heading for mental health problems due to the issues raised today.. we all know that jw teens are encouraged by the society to follow the leadership of the org.regarding the problems they may face during this difficult time.. the society has made it seem as though it is facing these problems by producing books and magazine articles especially for teens; but how useful are they?.

apparently to grow a healthy teen you need many things.see if you think the points i remembered(there were many more)could explain mental health problems for witnesses in later life.... 1.it's not rebellion that makes a healthy teenager; the most sucessful ones question and are allowed to question.. 2.in doing this they 'find' their own wat in life and learn to be comfortable in their own skins.. 3.teenagers understand the world and how to survive in it by exploring it in their own way.. 4.telling a teen 'these are the rules you should follow' make for unhappy teens...and unheathy mental health.. 4..when parents realise that a teen is preprogrammed to need to discover who they are; they can stop taking it personally and remember that the teen has to find their own path for their own mental growth.. 5.stunting a teens natural tendancy to 'strike' out on their own actually harms their coping abilities in the future.. 6.teenagers who have not been allowed to follow their own thinking for a while end up not having enough self esteem to even start thinking about theses things.this is where the problems start.. they will lack the life coping skills that other sucessful teens have; they will be more prone to depression; self harm;mental illness and suicide.. .

self harm is a classic example of a teen who has'nt questioned and therefore has'nt learnt to cope on their own, mentally.the cutting satisfies and releases feeling that are incommunicable due to repression in those years.. so please; all you witness parents- just because your child want to question, don't think they are rebellious in a bad sense- if they do question it proves you have brought them up well so far.don't spoil their future mental well-being by stopping them on their last stage of growth in to adult mental health.. let them question and speak openly without fear of reproach from you;help to set them up for adult hood..

I have never experienced the kind of oppression that you mentioned. I am not aware of anyone in the truth having to endure the kind of 'mind control' that has been claimed by some. It is good that children question and probe, how else can they learn? The Bible commands parents to bring their children up in the ways of Jehovah, that is their responsibility, and when the child is 18 years old, he/she is free to do as he/she chooses. Living a clean life has it's benefits, wouldn't you agree?
