Ever notice how people define themselves with positive qualities? What are the negatives?
I'm a fan of self-deprecating humor.

like every time the wind blows.
and why do people go on anti-depressants?
why do most people get depressed?.
most people get depressed because something is wrong in theyre lives.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like JWs any more than most of you. My entire point is JWs are not exclusive in this. The whole country I live in is medicated to their eyeballs.
I notice you say someone has to be brain-dead and retarded not to realize cult religions cause people to take depression meds. Little wonder. Trapped and always looking to someone else to solve their problems, some authority or this idea that all they need to do is hold on until the end of this "system" plays a big part in the depression they must feel. JWs seem not to have a sense of personal responsibility or power over their own lives.
But. Again, this is a huge western culture epidemic, especially in countries where pharmaceutical companies thrive. You can't watch one program without a barrage of ad commercials. And don't get me started on the ED ones.
Everyone, non-jws included, are being talked into taking medication even doing something recreational like watching TV. And what bugs me most is I see the truly mentally ill functioning much better than those whose GPs just hand these drugs out freely.
#1 pet peeve is going to a GP for what you need to be seeing a shrink for.
this is insanity!
literally four couples that i know closely & personally have told me in the last two weeks that they are divorcing their spouses.
and there are a couple on here whom i've discovered are separating as well (these two i do not know personally, but i'm a little surprised & saddened regardless).
WHY is everyone getting divorced? How do you know when it's time to throw in the towel? What makes a couple know they need to keep fighting for love? What makes a couple realize there's no more future for them
I think you work at it until you reach a dead end. If there is no love left then the marriage is over IMO. If you still love each other and it's buried under years of resentment then you work through that.
I'm a very non-commital person, I hate feeling trapped and imagined that marriage would do that to me. I didn't marry until I was 34 for that reason. But once I do commit to anything, I'll see it through until the bitter end.
I think though, if the other person quits loving you, then you have to walk away.
latest email from my elder father in law .i am sure he thinks this is awesome stuff that will guilt us right back to the kh .
what he doesn't realize is that i now see through the illogical nonsense these emails are based on .
read on and feel free to leave your breakdown of the nonsense ..... .
puke. i hate forwards and this one takes the cake.
he probably counts time when he presses the send button.

broad brushes for sale, anyone? i know about 3 jehovah's witnesses, none of them are on medications, but as i mentioned outside of my family i haven't known jws for over 20 years. i know a slew of non-religious people who take medication daily. i work in the mental health field so of course the odds are greater there.
anyhow.
Yes, properly used, alcohol is the safest of these drugs.
you're kidding right?
This could be useful, for instance, if a person is deathly afraid of spiders--a small dose of a tranquilizer just before seeing the spider might allow the patient to tolerate it instead of wussing out or freaking out totally.
actually many studies point to exposure therapy without the use of sedatives/tranqs/benzos to be the most useful. masking the fear with a substance often does nothing for the person when confronted with the same situation sans drugs.

I definitely agree that doctors throw them at people for very little reason at all. I've even known people put on them for IBS. The bad part is although they are not abused in the same way let's say xanax is, they still are a total bitch to get off of. Rebound effect. Not pretty.
I'm speaking more about those truly sick. Not people going through a rough patch who would benefit more by not masking a problem but by coming to terms with it through therapy.

Personally I think if you are troubled beyond the point of functioning, taking a medication is the responsible thing to do. Why start a pattern of being enabled to be sick?
I have zero problem with people truly sick taking medications as prescribed for their illness whether it be physical or legitimate mental illness. I don't think anti-depressants rank high on the list of substances which are abused.
If you want to talk benzos and narcotics then I will say "dangerous".
rather than getting too down about wasting the best years of my life in a cult .
i have a really great imagination.
you have to have one to get through five hours of meetings per week at a young age.
healthy cynicism.

thank you for posting that. i've been away from the jw's for a long time, before doctors began writing scripts for AD's for a easy fix to many people (not just those in a cult).
i don't think it is merely jw's who are at risk for becoming depressed and having medication thrown at them. many in fact do need anti-depressants long term as well. and therapy in conjunction with medication any psychiatrist will say is the best route. lifestyle changes and learning proper coping techniques picks up where the medication leaves off. a pill will not correct a bad situation, it will only give you a good start to tackling it.
