the following is an extract from something i wrote 16 years ago soon after leaving the watchtower.
i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.
if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.
JW's do not have a personal relationship with The Father, the Son or the HS, they have it with the WT.

Belief in any human doctrine is NOT essential for salvation, only belief is Christ is.
BUT what do we believe Christ to be?
The issue with the JW belief that Christ was created and was the archangel Michael is that not only does it have NO scriptural basis ( no where will you find mention that Jesus was created or that Jesus is the archangel Michael) but that viewing Christ as such is putting him in a role that is NOT of salvation and that is why JW's do not use Christ's name for salvation but use Jehovah.
They do NOT agree that salvation is in Christ's name, hence the changes in the NT passage of Romans 10:13.

The "truth" about John1:1 is by no means beyond dispute. This is a way to avoid all of that.
Within the context of the GOJ, it is clear that 1:1 is a statement on the nature of the divine Logos that became incarnate in Jesus.
this has been a subject that has been explored by many secular scholars today.
bart ehrman is one of them.
the divinci code had this to say about why the gospels were chosen:.
Why did the early church fathers ( and some will argue that the gospels, in particualr John were written to counter gnostic teachings that were rising up) reject Gnosticisim?
Well, simply put, there was still LOTS of Jewish influence at the time and many of the core teachings of the Gnostics ( in particular that the material world was inferiour) went against the orthodox teachings that God created the world and it was Good.
There were other issues too, but what we DO have as information about those writting AGAINST the gnostics is that what they preached was not inline with the direct teachings of CHrist and the apostles.
Lets remember that the Apostolic fathers were direct students of the apostles OR 2nd generation.
just curious..
Yeah Cofty, no Gangnam style up there...LOL.
Bah !
the whole reason i even got dragged into this jw stuff, and we didn't just become somebody's return visit they never came back on, is because my mom claimed that the demons were talking to her.
they told her that the jws knew the truth about them, so she called the local kingdom hall.
bible study was started, and that was that.
A different view:
Demons and Angels are differentnames for the same members of that species, a species that is far older than ours and was the first species to be created by God.
As they evolved and became close to God in likeness ( very powerful, virutally immortal, able to manipulate energy and matter, travel inbetween dimensions -theri world and ours), our species came along in the natural course of evolution on this planet ( their existence is before our planet) much like in their own planet in their own dimension.
Some served God ( the source and sustaine of the universe)while others decide to be like God for this younger race because that is what they felt they were to Us.
So they came over to our world and assimlated themselves into our cultures, sometimes as good gods and other times as bad gods and they procreated with humans bring forth "demi-gods".
i've only been a member here for a short time, but it seems like there are more christians on the board lately.
for the first few months that i was on jwn, it appeared that there were very few that argued in favor of a creator and belief in the bible in particular.
there seems to be several more that have recently joined...or at least posted more regularly regarding belief.
I think that the more we discuss things the more we understand each other and that is never a bad thing.
It is also important to realize that understanding doesn't = agreement or condoning, it just means we understand each other.
I hope that with understanding also comes learning. I know that I learn a lot from my discussions with atheists like Cofty, they challenge me and make me a better Christian because they force me to understand AND express my faith better and even to accept that I do NOT have the answer to all the questions and may never.
I do always try to express my faith in an orthodox manner and, I try my best to distinguish what orthodox doctrines says and what is MY opinion only.
just curious..
I think that issue may be redemption and repentance.
When a person accepts Christ they are to repent and be redeemed but what does that mean?
Somethink that simply means saying you are sorry and all is forgiven but Idon't think it works that way.
To repent we must accept that we have wronged others, that we have sinned and with the, the full understanding of those wrongings.
A person that repents takes upon themselves the full weight and pain of ALL those theyt have wronged, they come face-to-face with their sins AND the consequences there of.
Think Hitler coming to full awareness and full consciousness of ALL He did was was responsible for, the sheer magnitude of those horrors AND confronting them with FULL KNOWLEDGE of HOW wrong they were and how much pain and suffering they caused.
THAT is repentance, that is carry the cross as Christ did, to carry the full weight, burden, pain and sorrow of all the sins we have done, all those we have wronged.
Only by doing that are we redeemed.
So, it's not a case of simply saying "forgive" me to God and all is OK because for those that come to that place, when confronted with the full weight of sin, not many go that final step.
just curious..
Perhaps John 5 can help with this:
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
25 Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
