JW's do NOT teach from the bible, they teach from the WT and uses selective verse from the bible to justify their teachings.
Two very different things.
jesus christ sits on his throne in heaven and want's the world to to submit to his rule.
but they got the time for his entronment wrong, it began back in the first century.
they also don't understand the nature of his rule, jesus christ rules the world from within and without, from inside the heart of righteous people and from heaven above.. they also got it right that jesus christ want's to create a new world community.

If we beleive we are in Christ and Christ in Us then we must be the examples of CHrist, in what we do, what we say, how we behave.
In being such we become Christ's light in the world.
Be the change you want to see happen.
the last talk on the school this week was about jehovah being the 'hearer of prayer.
' one of the proof texts used was 1 john 5:14.
"and this is the confidence that we have toward him, that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will, he hears us.".
IMO, what we have here is"
He (the beleivers) that are born of God, Keep God and evil doesn't touch them.
The son of God came and have us ( them) understanding so that we may know HIm who is true ( God and Christ theologically or just God subjectively).
And we are in HIM who is true (and) in His son Jesus ( God and Christ in union).
This ( God and Christ in union) is the true God and eternal life.

Thanks PSacramento for pasting the entire passage.
amytime.
But, please have a look at each and every "he" and "his". Nowhere was "he" or "his" attributed to Jesus. The majority were "his son", and some "he"s; referring to God or the reader.
Then we have verse 20 and how it ends.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
YOu are trying tomake an artificial distinction where there isn't any.
You can get one (The son) without the other ( The father) or vice-versa if you prefer.
While koine greek can be tricky to translate, especially when writers like John make their writing semi-poetic, the thing is to NOT try to read more than is there and in these verse if you keep going back and forth from He, and Him and so, you cna get easily confused and miss the "big picture" of John theology, which is:
Father and Son, in perfect union and you can't get one without the other.
BUT, if you want to go over that passage, sure:
18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
the following is an extract from something i wrote 16 years ago soon after leaving the watchtower.
i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.
if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.
UNless the whole notion of "messiahship" is redefined.
Which is what the resurrection of Jesus caused His followers to do.
this has been a subject that has been explored by many secular scholars today.
bart ehrman is one of them.
the divinci code had this to say about why the gospels were chosen:.
I have Bart's books and they are great for the layperson BUT that are HIS opinion only.
His own teacher, Bruce Metzger, didn't agree with Bart's conculsions and Metzger was perhaps THE NT scholar of the 20th century, his books on the NT canon and the tranmission of scripture are excellent.
Bart makes vald points but the problem is thatare NOT new and have all been dealt with over the centuries.
It is important to understand however, where Bart was coming from. As somone that believed the bible to be inerrant when Bart realized that it was the way HE thiought it should be, he decided to bring what he viewed as the errors and inconsistencies of the beible to laypeople ( Scholard and historians had know about these issues for centuries).
In many ways Bart did a great job of bring this issues to the forefront and in doing so, IMO, made every Christian who wanted to address this concerns a better apologist.

Because someone grabs a verse from the OT and hangs it on Jesus means nothing.
It means as much or as little to a person as it means to them.
The issue that 1st century Jews had to Jesus followers claims that He was the messiah is that Jesus did NOT fullfil the signs of being the messiah an usher in teh Messianic age.
No 1st century jew was expecting a "crucified messiah".
I'm pretty sure that Jesus is much more offended by the stupidity done in his name than he is by all the crosses.
Indeed.
And while the OP was funny, no denying that, I for myself was responding to the post under it thatmentioned that JW fallacy of viewing the cross as a horrific thing.
It is clear that 1st century Christians didn't view it as such.
The issue of the cross is leik the issue of birthdays and CHristmans, it is one of division, of US ( JW's) VS Them ( the rest of thr world).
It's kind of sad because, at least in reagrds to Crosss, Christmans and BDays, Russel got it right and it was Rutherford that decided to screw it up for the next generations of JW's.
It does amaze me how many JW's have left their religion because they found it to be so wrong and YET cling to many fo the doctrines/POV that they had, expecially in regartds to Christmans and Crosses.
Heck, if the JW relgion go so much wrong, why on earth think that they got those right?
Especially when you can see for yourself, in the words on the NT writers, that they did NOT view the cross as soemthing shameful and disgusting but a symbol of hope and victory over death.

Every time Jesus is referred to as "God" he is being called "Immanuel".
In regards to what we knwo about Christians, we know as much as we know about other relgions at that time, perhaps more even.
We have the writings of christians and even those that wrotes against Christians or were mere observers.
A good example is:
Pliny the younger:
They affirmed, however, that the whole of their guilt, or their error, was, that they were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verse a hymn to Christ as to a god, and bound themselves to a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft, adultery, never to falsify their word, not to deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up.
Truth be told we don't have much mention of what types of people the Christians were other than by their own writings, which is at least indicates that they didn't do anything overly notworthy in a bad sense, unless you take for real the view that Christians set fire to Rome, which NO historian does of course.
my wife ask me if im going to make up the assmebly, i reminder her that i in clean conscience can not go anymore,as soon as the word anymore came out the tears started flooding.
it hurts me to see her like this.
i talked to her calm trying to explain why i cant worship with doctrine that is so clearly wrong.
You need to be there for her.
Listen to what she is saying and speak to her gently and lovinginly.
Express to her your concerns about the the WT and the JW religion BUT don't do it in a aggressive manner, express to her that you love her more deeply than ever, make sure she understands that it is about THEM and not you two.
Read Her Paul's passage about Love and help her understand that you still believe in God and Christ and the issues are the HUMAN doctrines NOT God.
You want to assure her of your love for her and for God, help her understand that as best you can and answer any question and doubts she has with love and tenderness.
