I think that providing for ourselves in the case of an emergency is always important.
Natural disaters can effect anyopne at anytime, though we do tend to get some notice when something may becoming our way.
I always try to have a supply of water and food for at least a week ( which canbe stretched for two if need be.
I have a wood buring fireplace and surplus propane, I have the know how to hunt and kill and skin, degut and cook wild aniimals if need be ( we all learned that in the army of course).
I have always followed the view that " 2 is 1, 1 is none" and have a back up for everything.
Beyond that I know some people that stock pile stuff big time, inclusing guns and ammo ( yes even here in Canada).

are they typically screwy in the head?.
are they just angry at the world or their family member or their boss?.
People kill for many reasons, you can't just pick one.
Some kill to survive, some to defend others, some to impose their will on others, some as an act of defiance or hate or emotional distraught, some kill because they think it is right, some kill because they think it is an accetable solution to a problem, etc, etc.
Human have killed more to impose their will on others, and by that to increase their well being and chances of survival, than for any other reason probably.
I think people kill because they think it will make whatever issue they have, better.
Some kill because they simply enjoy how it feels.

what is the deal with people criticizing jws because they don't celebrate birthdays or christmas?.
it is as if when someone is born, from a baby, to a child, teen, adult; that one has a responsiblity to celebrate christmas (and i thought it was a free country); and others have a responsiblity to celebrate others' anniversary of one's birth.. i don't get the criticisms as if celebrating either is a great thing and the not celebrating is a bad thing.. data on star trek said that he does not understand why people celebrate their birthdays - a day one can not possibly remember.. what are you actually celebrating?

I have no issues with JW's criticizing Christmas since they do not accept the date ot any of the tradtions asociated with Christmas ( right or wrong is nothe point), I do criticize them not celebrating birthdays since they celebrate anniversaries which are bascially the same thing.
