What would Christianity look like without Paul's writings?

a thowoff from ren's thread obviously.. i am firmly convinced that what is called christianity today - is actually just pauline theology.. if you removed all the portions of the nt that are attributed to paul, and actually accepted as primary the words of jesus and his direct followers - the worldwide movement would look far different doctrinally.

and as far as the fundy's go - they would be lost without the deep judgmentalism and rules oriented thinking of this writer [whomever he really was].. if ren's thread could go 15 pages and counting - why not this one?.

I am not sure why there are some issues with Paul, other than some of his doctrine teaching being very cutomized to his audience of the time.

At its core, it is based on Love, Hope and Faith in Jesus Christ as our Saviour and sole mediator between us and God.

Sure he has some issues with women, widows, concerns about devote people marrying and such, which is typical of someone that viewed the end of times as close at hand. and someone brought up with strict teeachings and such.

I agree that if one was to focus on the spiritual elements of Paul's teachings, there would be less "issues" with Christianity, but at the same time Paul makes it clear ( or resanably so) how vital a personal relationship is with God through Jesus, how crucial Love is and how eternal God and Jesus's love for us is.

here's one example: being a congregation publisher.

nowhere in the bible does it say you should be a "publisher" and turn in your time if you preach.

they try to twist the scriptures by saying that numbers are constantly being recorded in the bible so then conforming to the rules of being a publisher is from the scriptures.. yeah, right..

Jesus was ressurected in bodily form, inhis own words "Flesh and Bone".

That he ascended in spirit form can be viewed as logical for, in him are all the qualities of God.

I have had the previalge of exchanging a few emails with Ray and he has been instrumental in my search for God through our lord and saviour,Jesus Christ.

He also has helped me keep my relationship alive with thr part of my family that are JW's.

He is a good man, God Bless him for help people find Christ.

Water purification existed before the Hebrew Mikvah (SP?) or at the very least, a long side it to a point that one can't say which was First.

As Paul often mentioned, one can not jusge others because they keep a day more special than another.

As long as the days are for God.

One thing that I have been struggling to make sense of is how JW's say that Jesus is Michael based on the interpretation of somepassages, for it is not stated PLAINLY anywhere, yet go after Trinitarians for doing the same thing to justify the Trinity.

Both are not scriptural ( stated plainly), both are based on interpretation of various passages.

Why's everybody getting divorced????!

this is insanity!

literally four couples that i know closely & personally have told me in the last two weeks that they are divorcing their spouses.

and there are a couple on here whom i've discovered are separating as well (these two i do not know personally, but i'm a little surprised & saddened regardless).

SC Governor and Men in general

this is a question for the guys on this board.

i have seen and read so many cases where very succesful men throw their careers, relationships and reputations away over a bit of booty.

is there some tipping point in a males setup that causes the lower head to completely overrule any and all of the directions from the upper one?

Some people, and not just men, tend to confuse intimacy with sex, passion with lust and as such, when the "new car feeling" goes away, they look to trade up.

Its a horrific thing that Love that shoudl rule us all, is but in the backseat to lust and that people prefer to seetle for the "petit morte" than to have the kind of love that poets write about ands that dreamers dream about.

Why did the partakers increase for 2006??

the may 1st 2007 watchtower magazine says that anyone can partake.

the witnesses did not know of that upcoming doctrine change so why did the partaker numbers increase in 2006?.

was there any boe letters that stated that everyone who partakes should be counted??

Another questin that stems from this thread, if Paul says that Jesus told us to partake of the "body and blood of Christ" till the day he comes, IF he came in 1914, shouldn't JW's stop the memorial celebration?

My Mom is afraid that I will become an "apostate", why?

Because I did what she asked me to do years ago, to view the RCC with a critical eye based on scripture.

The problem it seems is that I applied that same eye to the WT ( and all other religions).

My questioning of WT doctrine that is not scriptural but interpretive has caused her to fear for my salvation and for that of my wife and children.

I assured her that I have faith and belief in One God, our heavenly Father and his One Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, who is the sole mediator beteen Us and God, who was crucified for our Sins, who was raised from the Dead and sits at his Fathers side.

I told her that my salvation is based on Faith and love in Jesus that from this love that the good deeds that I do, flow forth, not with the hope of recompense, but out of love with the hope of nothing other than "love begetting Love".

She is still worried about me...

they never say "bracketed 'other' here" when reading bible either......

so that word is added a few times in colossians and there many other [bracket] words in the nwt as if that makes it okeydokie...yet when these scriptures are read from any platform or stage, the reader never mentions it...so if some poor worldly person at a convention is just listening and not reading a bible...he has just heard a spurious verse....the same is true on all the wt bible readings on tape or cd....imo if you read it spurious...then it is spurious.......just a thought as no good dub would ever admit jws would ever utter such a thing...................................oompa.

And that is a very valid point, however, in the case of Colosians, the additon of "other" doesn't make it clearer because it was never unclear to begin with.
