  Why is the WTBTS Dumbing Down?

  have you noticed the watchtower's slow drift into another self-destructive trap of their own design?

  i know i will get a couple of responses from some.

  the opinions will generally come from two camps: the society will never die because there will always be ones willing to write a mental "blank check"and embrace "god" through his "orginization".the society will prosper because it is god's orginzation in our times.. .

  I sincerely hope they are trying to mainstream the religion. A kinder, gentler version of the WTS would be at worst kooky. The WTS today does untold damage to individuals and families. To go mainstream, though, they are going to have to drop some of their more damaging dogmas.

  • Blood transfusions = ingesting blood = disassociating act
  • Shun apostates, disfellowshipped ones, disassociated ones, weak ones
  • Christendom's Churces are Babylon the Great

  I would be thrilled if the WTS would join the great brotherhood of churches. Then at least those that leave the organization have a place to go. There are signs, however, that they are instead tightening up the rules and closing their ranks. Russia dropped their damaging totalitarian dogma (at great cost to the country, by the way). China has not. Both have been successful in their own way. My guess is that there is no one head of the great WTS organization, and that there are conflicting forces at work. Moderates vs Hardliners. The hardliners, at the moment, appear to have the upper hand.

  Hillbilly has a point. The lawyers may end up ruling the ship. Recent policy changes such as "disassociating act" and "conscience matter" is attempting to dump all culpability in the individual member's lap. If the lawyers have their way, the written materials will become more convoluted, incomprehensible, and bland.

  What must I do to be saved?

  first of all, i am agnostic.

  maybe there's a god, maybe not.

  so i wonder, do i actually have to believe in god in order to be saved?

  Stinkypantz, I have been mulling over your question for a couple of days now, and it still puzzles me. As a self-declared an agnostic, I assume you are unsure about many things. First of all if God exists. Also, whether anything happens after you die. By inference, then, you are not sure you have to be "saved" from anything. The first guy to ask "What must I do to be saved?" was a devout JW *ahem* I mean Jew. He was doing all that the laws of the prophets required of him, yet was unfulfilled. He therefore went to the Master to get the answer for his gnawing emptiness. I understand why he asked.

  Why do you ask the question this way?

  Whether or not God proves himself to us, and regardless of our fate after death, what we believe does affect how we live our lives now. JW's slave in the field, neglecting family and shunned ones, because of their belief in armageddon-around-the-corner. I believe that love triumphs over evil. Because I believe this, I have in my more heroic moments, given love to the unlovely. Such behavior would not be logical or wise for a believer in entropy. So the way I see it, the salvation you could benefit from now, as an agnostic, is to be "saved" from the most unlovely parts of your self. Are there things you could do or chose to believe, to "save" yourself from those unlovely parts?
