as a kid growing up in the uk we used to play 'cowboys and indians' and watch high chaparal and bonanza along with other cowboy films.
later, in the 70's kung fu would be shown with caine going through the 'old west'.
we even had a chocolate bar that was marketed with a 'cowboy' theme...milky bar.. as far as i know the 'wild west' as shown on tvdidn't actually exist.. are there people that believe it did?.
There's the Western, a Hollywood genre with its own conventions and mythos.
Then there's real cowboys, who are still around. Come out and stay at a dude ranch and find out all about it.

I might add that the Canadian cowboys were less likely to take the law in to their own hands. We had the RCMP out here for law and order. Infamous was Fort Whoop-Up, more along the lines of the American west, with too much alcohol and too many guns.

Remember when everyone was afraid of catching AIDS? True story, I received a complaint from a tenant fearful he could catch AIDS from fruit flies in the bathroom.
Blood-to-blood contact, fruit fly lands on something bathroom-icky, lands on another person, presto bango another AIDS victim.

after a one year sucessful fade and no longer associated with any congreation, i was visiting my sister this week (who goes to the meeting to please her husband for now; i am slowly planting seeds though) and they decided to year this weeks midweek meeting via the telephone.
since i was a guest in her house, i sat with them in the living room to hear the meeting.
to my surprise (especially growing up as a gay jw with still alot of anger in my heart over how i was treated), the talks 2 and 3 where on, of course, homosexualiy.

my girlfriend's dad who is 82 lost his second wife to cancer last october.
while she was dying, he secretly was seeing another woman, in her 60s.
long story short, a month after the wife's death, they both moved in together and in early june , they secretly got married.
I just buried my crazy mom. But then she'd been crazy a long time, so I was used to it. I have known for years I wasn't written in the will. She still deserved to go out the way she wanted, which she did.

in this thread i would like to present the same question " what is a fact" from a different viewpoint.. many j.w children have loving parents ( that is a fact) but parents who insanley demanded unquestioning obidience to their deranged standards.. so " what is a fact" to innocent children is that a god who they have never seen nor heard, will destroy them if they dont live to the g.bs deranged standards.. so basically these children have been taught the wrong meaning of words:-.

Just read the IMDB synopsis. My argument still holds. No matter what word you assign, a flower still exists. You are the one playing with semantics. Call it messing with reality, call it corrupting truth, but the messing with children's or people's reality does not change facts.

There's been a suspected Ebola shut-down here in Edmonton and in Ottawa too. A patient with symptoms will be asked if they have spent any time in Africa. Then the lock-down.

The CDC and the WHO are agencies dedicated to protecting the population from disease. When these organizations become suspect, where do you get your reliable information from? Distrust in the African countries have already made it difficult to contain the disease (for instance, exhuming and parading dead bodies through the streets).

NH&H, I won't redefine "fact" so that your observation (which is a very good one) remains true.
Whatever reality children are raised under, and in our great world there are very many realities, facts remain the same. Very often child does find out through painful experience that those things he relied on as being true, aren't so.
But there are facts that do not change, no matter how fickle people are.
