WHAT IS FACT. ( A bizarre fantazy)

I think my earlier post " What is a fact" has run it's course.

In this thread i would like to present the same question " what is a fact" from a different viewpoint.

Many J.W children have loving parents ( that is a FACT) but parents who insanley demanded unquestioning obidience to their deranged standards.

So " What is a fact" to innocent children is that a God who they have never seen nor heard, will destroy them if they dont live to the G.Bs deranged standards.

So basically these children have been taught the wrong meaning of words:-

    Love is conditional

God is all loving, but will destroy all that dont meet his standards.

The G.B have direct communication with God, and this God has a name " Jehover"

To please this God " Jehover" i must aim for baptisam, and give my all my love and effort to the organisation.

All the above is a bizare fantazy but for a child growing up a Jehovers Witness it's a FACT.

I have much more to say on this subject, but would welcome your viewpoints . Thanks.

As a child my little boy through the ages of 4 and 6 had an invisable friends named Moley. He used to create the most imaginative and incredible stories, and i delighted in writting those adventures in to a book.

    But who wrote that book?

I believe it was written by a little boy and that i was just the secretsry.

Back to my O.P. The easy answer would be it doesn't matter where you get your information from, what matters is if it's true or not.

But is their more to the answer? I would say we are at a stage now when people can get an incredible amount of information to support what they already think as a fact.

Now my little boy let Moley go when he no longer needed him. And moley never really existed that is a fact. But he did exist, in my childs mind that is also a fact.

Hi nhah;.. children have imaginations which in the context of which you speak are not facts because as a child the truth of the imaginary thoughts they have are not known to them until the developing brain begins to reason ie they have not reached the stage of properly discerning for themselves what a fact is.

Thus imaginary friends, santa claus, fairies etc may seem real to them but can only be accepted as facts if reasoned upon ie to know why it's a fact.

Therefore you as an adult may say what is in the childs mind eg ' moley ' is a fact to them but that reasoning is precisely because you are an adult.

It is not the reasoning of the child therefore cannot be a fact.

    Best wishes.

You see the facts i grew up with were never facts at all:-

My O.P of a boy with loving parents is true. The rest a " bizarre fantazy"

Then my reading on the holocaust. I belived as a fact the authentisity of the " Anne Frank diary". I belived each and every word i read in " Night" by Elie Weisel. I belived in the words in the book " Halina" ..I read the " The last Enemy" a story about a spitfire pilot during world war two. All these books are classics and presented as factual truth belived by millions.

Now i have researched these books they are to me nothing more than " bizarre fantazies". Yes much of the contents have truth in them, and they feed the humun soul. But if you research it becomes easy to learn the " facts" from " bizarre" fantazy.

So properganda and statistics dont make fact. Then why are we so sure 6 + 6 does not make 13?

Or if you dont understand my above point about 6 + 6 , let me put it another way, why should a person who has been bought up on " facts" that were not " facts" believe 6 plus 6 equals 12?

Or let me ask a question.

Who of us can say 100 % that all they believe to be a fact is a fact?

Tthe follow on being, that many many adults still have the childlike state of not being able to discern between knowledgeable fact and compelling imagination.

But is it not at least ok to raise doubts about what a fact is?

And to do so would it not be wrong if the question is not taken to the ultimate exstreme?

Do facts stop us questioning the boundaries of humun existence?

Who can say 100% that all they believe as facts are facts?

Any dispute contra ' a fact ' has to be substantiated, the ensuing arguments will determine, as in a court room whether what is presented as fact is actually s

    corroborated evidence is the key.

Therefore the presented ' facts ' which were proved to be bogus were not ever facts.

Our humanistic reasoning on what is fact is no different from the court room of the worlds stage.

Anyone disputing commonly agreed fact, had better have indisputable evidence or they may be made to look foolish.

Of course there are those who would present skewed evidence as a result of not awakening from their childlike imaginary state.
