  deddaisy, I can understand your frustration with scandal. Uncovering lies and coverups by the Watchtower Society are not the best way to encourage a rank-and-file witness out of the society. That does not mean, however, that these investigations have no value. I give you two thoughts:

  1. What is the best way to get loved ones out of the WTS?

  Witnesses are pre-warned that they are going to hear "lies" from "Satan" about the Faithful and Discreet Slave. By passing on this information, you are simply confirming for your mom that you are hopelessly embedded in Satan's system. An old preacher once said, "Don't try and take a dirty old bone away from a dog. He could bite you. Throw a big, juicy bone in front of him, and he'll drop the old one." The Society is all your mother knows about goodness and love. It is not hard for you to top the Society. Show love, concern, care, and practical helps to your mom. It will take a while, but this gentle "guerilla warfare" will work away at her old resistance.

  2. Of what value is scandal?

  It validates for those of us that are "out" that we made the right decision. For those starting to doubt the honesty of the WTS, something like this can be the final straw on the way out. It forces the WTS to take themselves off their pedestal (if someone doesn't push them off first). Besides, legal bills and lawsuits are expensive. Money that might have been used for ever grander expansion is being drained away in self defence. Honesty and integrity is far less expensive than coverups. Perhaps with enough "hits", the society may wake up that it's arrogant attitude is too expensive. They can no longer claim to be the only "righteous" organization on earth, they are just like every other man-made organization. I think the WTS is long overdue some major humbling. A humble and contrite heart, God will not despise. And the organization might just become a kinder, gentler version of itself. Call me an optomist. I can dream, can't I?

  I know what you mean, Craig. Some of those long posts make me go crosseyed. Like being stuck beside someone at a party who thinks a monologue is the same as a conversation. I started these commentaries with the idea that I would pick apart the entire article, so then I feel compelled to post the entire thing. The time before I posted a "rabbit trail" separately and then linked it. Perhaps I should narrow my focus to one or two points in each article that really catches my eye.

  well march and april passed, more witnessing, placing mags and going on calls.

  the odd whinge about being a teenager lol i still had the major crush for stuart.

  i was really starting to "bloom" and those hormones were rampant.

  Outbackaussie, your story has great impact. You shared a bit of your heart. How would that story have played out if you didn't have the WTS recording inside your head? Probably the relationship would not have lasted either, I bet. I wonder if you would have felt less guilty about it?

  Thank you so much, Blondie! Constructive criticism is just what I need. Thanks for the tip. I will summarize the main themes, and if I quote, I will comment directly. As a side benefit, I am learning a lot more about the foundations of Christianity, and why some topics were fought over so fiercly in those early years.

  Demoting Jesus to angelic status severely downgrades His mission and purpose, which in turn, changes how we view His ability to impact our lives. How very crippled is the Watchtower life. Devotion to Jehovah is reduced to three assignments; daily bible reading, attendance at the KH, and door-to-door preaching work.

  Oh goody. This rarely happens. Someone confidently makes a claim and a date, and all I have to do to refute them is wait until December 20. Not only that, the date is soon enough that I should be able to retain it in my short-term memory. proplog2, do you promise to take back your carefully worked out calculations, if Armageddon does not start on December 20? You won't pick a single event, like the opening of the Lord of the Rings for instance, as "proof" that you were right, will you? What specific events do you expect to happen on December 20?

  By my carefully considered calculations, Armageddon will not happen on December 20.

  One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the Kingdom of God come?" Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God isn't ushered in with visible signs. You wont be able to say, "Here it is!" or "Its over there! For the Kingdom of God is among you." (Luke 17:21 NLT)

  What do I get if I am right? Peace of mind?

  i am sitting here listening to my kazaa, finding old songs that i had forgotten i even knew at one time.

  music to me has always been an outlet for expression, even thou the words and music belong to someone eles.

  it can help me to work thru my emotions in ways like no other .
