I could not find a card or poem that said what I wanted to say. They either sounded too trite or too preachy. Your final gift of love and caring was so beautiful. (((Golden Girl))). I guess there are not words deep enough.

Some more notes on this same study
p. 6 When Jerusalem finally fell, about one seventh of all Jews in the Roman Empire perished. The destruction of Jerusalem and its temple meant the end of the Jewish state and its religious system based on the Mosaic law. Mark 13:1,2.
Hmmm. The Jewish State has again renewed itself in our generation. Vines are growing in the desert. It would be apparent that Jehovah has forgiven them yet again. Could this be a fulfillment of prophecy? Not according to the WTS; they are supposedly the replacement as spiritual Isreal. Good thing they are so humble about it. Physical Isreal might be a little upset. I wonder if they noticed that the JW's have absconded their title?p. 10 Peter helps his readers to cultivate patience by reminding them why God often does not act immediately...
I am confused. Readers are told that the time is short, stay alert, DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER. Now the article says hurry up and wait?p. 12 If we stay awake, Jehovah will fund us "spotless and unblemished and in peace" at the end of this system of things (2 Peter 3:14,15) What a blessing that will be!
Can you read the coded message here? What is left unsaid is what happens to anyone who did not stay awake at the last assembly, or who has a blemish on their time card, or a blemish with his elders. Or the poor sod who is told every week at the KH he should have peace, but he doesn't feel it yet. Did Jesus mean for us to be in fear of our salvation minute by minute?p. 14 ...3.1-percent increase over 2001- gave evidence of being spiritually alert by spending 1,202,381,302 hours talking to others about God's Kingdom
...why is numerical evidence required? (Matthew 7:15-20, Galatians 5:22)p. 15, 16 Several countries that experienced numerical increase are held up as examples of
self-sacrificing spirit . Uh. Oh. Canada baaaaad. No self-sacrificing spirit here, I guess.
p. 17 A zealous 16-year-old witness is held up as an example for all. After presenting some videos to her classmates
, the following week the students were given a test which all the questions dealt with the Christian religion of Jehovahs Witnesses . Yup. I bet that made her real popular with her classmates. Yup.
p. 21 Lot and Noah
illustrate the importance of taking warnings seriously . Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? What about false alarms? Does the WT really expect everybody in the World to continue to take them seriously after they have gotten it wrong again and again? Probably not. They have a nice, steady growth consisting of the gullible and second-generation kids. Why rock the boat?

A Growing Irritant
by Inkie inmore and more lately when i have occasion to read any of the society's publications or any postings here at this site which quote the society's publications i find more and more lately that i become really irritated, annoyed, chafing, at the redundant phrase "anointed christians.
" it just irritates the hell out of me.
i don't necessarily understand the "why" of this annoyance only that i recognize that i have it.

How about:
- Honest-hearted
- True Christians
When does an honest-hearted one become a dishonest-hearted one, and who is the judge? What is a false Christian? Using the above example, is a false Christian anointed with sewer-water? How can the anointed anointed walk the same streets as the unwashed ones?

You beat me to it this week, Blondie. You must be feeling better.
A constant state of alertness as taught here is just plain unhealthy, let alone biblical. God created the first holiday, the Sabbath, as a time to rest and reflect on the good job He has done. (Genesis 2:1-3). What of the Year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:10-22)? Has the FDS instituted an equivalent period of rest? (Matthew 11:28-30) When does a Witness have time to stop and ponder the direction his life is taking?

What exactly ARE the JWs known for?
by detective ini was reading a thread in which jh said:.
people knew we were jw's just by the way we dressed, but also by the way we talked.. .
now, not to come down on jh by any means, but this raised a question in my mind.

Lessee, before I got edumacated, what did I hear about the JW's?
- "They're a cult. When they ask for all your money, get out of there!"
- They wear suits and they go door to door. I could not tell them apart from the Mormons.
- They build the tackiest churches you ever saw. The cinder-built community hall has more character.
- "Yeah, our neighbours are Witnesses. They don't put up lights at Christmas. They don't have much to do with us - a little stuck up if you ask me."
Now I can proudly say I can tell the difference between a Witness and a Mormon. Mormon boys have cooler knapsacks and nametags.

Looking to the FDS for Salvation
by jgnat inisaiah's prophecy - light for all mankind ii.
chapter 11, page 164, p. 22.
to look to men for salvation is the height of folly.

MacHislopp, so you figure the WTS is hoping, by keeping a low profile, the bad publicity and the lawsuits will go away? Just in case they're listening, I think a deeper change is required than that. Starting with the shunning policy. If they stopped making so many enemies year after year, they might have a prayer.

Will I always be a JW??????? :(
by Jesika ini was wondering, since i was raised a jw, will i ever get rid of the mindset of being a jw.
i have been out for 12yrs, but still find that certain things i say, or think, or react to remind me of being a jw.
like with the current things going on with iraq and the us.

Jesika, I am guessing that action, rather than research, is more your style. Hey, if you never have to crack open another WT, wooohooo! How about a nice novel? Biographies are a great inspiration for me. Read about someone you admire and decide to live like them.

Elders authority over non JW's?
by figureheaduk injust been looking at e-watchman's mailbag (a bit one sided to say the least.........), and there was a question from a girl who is studying with someone else who she's fallen in love with.
it seems that she's been told that they can't date until they've both been baptized - so she asked the e-watchman his advice.
the first sentence of his reply was "the elders in the congregation don't really have authority over those who are not part of the congregation".

Here is one of my favorite scriptures on the subject, but the objects don't usually get the joke:
Matthew 11:16,17NIV
16 "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 " 'We played the flute for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge
and you did not mourn.' -

Not even once
by Gig ini've read my fair share of their pubs, and nowhere, ever have i seen a clearly stated repentance or a humble confession on the part of the wts.
i know that they have delicately admitted a mistake here and there, but it's always overshadowed by the self-praise logic that overall we should be thankful for the mistake.
the bible specifically speaks against that.

I think the World Wide Church of God did a much better job of apologizing, though it cost them dearly.
http://www.wcg.org/lit/AboutUs/comments.htm
I think the WTS is much more conscious of the bottom dollar, however, than the condition of their sheep. Oh, that I would live to see the day....
