Really? I am endlessly fascinated on what others think of me. I do tend to follow the rules of the road. Does that make me middle of the roadish?

*ahem*
I don't think I have ignored you, Ravyn.
We can look at religion as man’s search for God. I think Xthiests and Xtians can both agree on that. In various religions we can find variations in beliefs, rituals and practice. Some treat these different religions as choices on a grocery shelf; pick according to your taste. Others insist their brand is superior to any other (think Coca Cola and Pepsi). One could judge all of Christianity by reviewing it’s various forms and history, and declare it flawed. As I think every religion will be, as the starting point is our own flawed selves, perceiving darkly the Glory barely within our grasp.
Now, assuming that God does exist, what to we call God’s search for man? Futile? It is difficult to discuss this second topic with someone who does not really believe in a personal God. If you can put aside your disbelief for a minute, if such a God was personally interested in our welfare, He would have a difficult time of it. We could easily misinterpret His intent.
More later. Too much deep thinking on a lovely spring evening.

Ever wonder why elders read from a piece of paper when DF'ing someone?
by Jourles in.
of course, the reason why they read from a slip of paper is to make sure they do not get caught in any legal difficulties..

Great job, Jourles! One small comment. Could you put a visitor's log so we can add our comments about your site?

Help!!, I have to do a presentation!!!
by ScoobySnax infor my project i have chosen "better communication within the nursing/medical team" and i've got a rough idea of what i want to say, but i just want to know if any of you have any good advice about presentation skills i need to employ.
in my own ward environment i'm, if anything over the top, laughing and joking, have plenty of confidence, because i know them, and they're my staff.
but the thought of having to present infront of a room of 100, made up of all the hospital managers and directors is starting to make me quake a bit!!!

Need Support Tonight
by Charmed ini feel so alone tonight.
i thought i'd get on here and find some support.
my husband and i got into a fight last night.

Charmed, with the little experience I have with men, I do figure most of them are pretty dense. I bet his thinking did not go any farther than - "That was a nasty remark, right back atcha!" and he said the most hurtful thing he could think of.
It worked. Too well.
Next step, "How do I dig myself out of this hole I just dug for myself?" After several years of marriage, most men, dense or not, have it down to a handy formula; Apologize, Apologize, Apologize.
You can help him along this road by taking the soft approach. "Honey, I am sorry I snapped at you like that about the laundry. Let's work something out that makes us both happy. By the way, you must feel REALLY BAD about that cult crack....wanna make it up to me?
But hey, that's just me and how I work this stuff out. You know your man best.

Ive been asked to do a talk for a born-again church...
by searchfothetruth in.
i could do with some advice.. my uncle is a born-again and attends a church in liverpool and has asked me to give an hours talk on 'how to answer jehovah's witnesses' basically to help his churches members talk to witnesses on the when they come to their doors.. i have most of the info off freeminds and jw files, and was wondering what you all thought would be the best subjects to approach, the easiest to explain and the most effective for making jw's think after being questioned on it.. appreciate your comments..

What JeffT and Metatron said. Jeff, that is absolutely brilliant about getting the youth to stand up. Very gripping, and something the teens will not soon forget. Make sure to tell them to STAY AWAY from the trinity thing. The divinity of Jesus is good; just make sure the audience understands that the WT does pay lip service to Him. Personal testimonies are great. There is no WT handbook for handling such personal experiences.
My daughter successfully led a girl away from the JW's. My daughter researched scriptures to death, debated to death. But the kicker was simple friendship and fun. When the girl attended my daughter's youth group for the first time, the WTS became a fast fading memory. Try inviting a JW neighbour over for a BBQ. Bring over cookies when it is obvious they are going through a rough time. It is really easy to be friendlier and funner than the local KH.

Has the Watchtower infiltrated JWD?
by JH in.
do you think that at least one active person on this board is working for the watchtower and trying desperately to get information on people here?
do you know who you can really trust on this site, or is everyone a potential watchtower spy?
-
jgnat
Hey, apostates are ALL OVER the Watchtower. We don't all fade at the same time, y'know. Just LOOK at the rich material that gets posted here. A paranoid, closed organization has a lot to fear from such openness.
This board is open. To everyone. We got lurkers. We got fence-sitters. We got (a few, very tough-skinned) WT apologists. What, exactly, do we have to hide?
trying desperately to get information on people here
What kind of info? Who we are? Where we live? Actually, that information is not that hard to find out. What would be the motive? Most likely, to flush out the faders and apostates in their midst. That is enough for me to keep quiet on details of my life. I do not want to cause my honey any unneccessary heartache. If he gets kicked out, I do not want him blaming it on me.
Hey, if there are WT infiltrators trying to stir the pot, here, bring them on! There is enough 'intelligence' here to more than match anything the WT can throw our way.

Why Catholics?
by playdrums injust a question about the vitriol aimed at the catholic church from the wtbs- .
i understand (but disagree) with the "doctrinal" aspect of the attacks leveled at the catholic church by the wtbs - it's the great harlot, etc.
i'm more interested in getting to the bottom of the real reason they target catholics so strongly.
-
jgnat
Back in 1847, they were a mover and shaker in world events. The UN looked like that, too, for quite a while. Like others have said, they are an easy target. Antagonizing Catholics is an easy way to collect persecution points without actually getting killed. And the Church has often played an interfering role in the politics of third world nations. Being anti-catholic alone in some of these countries would engender a following.
Is there a weakness to be exploited? Yup. Big, old, musty religion, slow to change, comfortable in their authority, traditions of which the origins have been lost in the mists of time, hidden libraries, secret meetings, incalculable assets of land and gifts accumulated over time....
Wait. Who were we talking about, again?
