Christy was a great model for the deaf community. She modeled the challenges and difficulties they face every day. Hey, she may have lost the million, but she touched millions of hearts. I hope there are lots of commercials in her future.

Nice to see you again, Blondie. I hope you and Irreverent are doing better. I took some liberties with paragraphs 15 and 16:
If it can be clearly shown that the WTS has strayed from the Truth, such as hiding the pedophile problem, how is it that some JW’s fail to get the point? It may have to do with the nature of the relationship they have with WT organization itself.
They may be afraid to be cut off from family and friends.
They have invested so much time and energy in to this way of life, they do not have the heart to admit they might have been wrong.
They have chosen the easier path of external laws and controls (how to dress, shave, work, marry) than building a conscience on their own.
Still another reason why certain JW’s are eager to remain tight with the WTS is that they are more concerned about their respectable position in the society than in doing what they know is right.
It is easier for someone lacking spirituality to accept the WT guidelines than to embrace the deeper tenets of Christianity, which are centred on love, kindness, and communion with our fellow man regardless of race, nationality, gender, creed or religion. Such acts are not measured by men but God alone. (Galatians 5:22-24, 1Peter 4:8, James 2:15,16)

Why do they like the noise? (Yet another fluff question!)
by ozziepost ini predict there will be an increasing level of questions in these "last days"!!.
so here's my contribution!.
here in the great south land, builders and tradesmen seem unable to do their work without having the radio blaring out from their truck radios.

You know, even in Christendom's churches there is a lot of concern about being "unequally yoked". I wonder if we miss the "spirit of the law" in this case, because I saw lots of girls marry men who were tempermentally unsuitable but conveniently of the same faith.
But what if you are with someone you just know is good for you? Doesn't it just follow that you will be able to successfully team together through life's storms?
And as for the out-of-context scripture quote;
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, even
God. (Mark 10:18 ASV)There is a very good possibility Jesus was trying to jolt the young man in to realizing that he may have been talking to God himself. Was there ever a man who was completely good? Yet Jesus was. Consider that Jesus also said,
The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things: (Matthew 12:35 ASV)
It sounds like you got yourself a good husband. Congratulations!

Francois, I found this comment fascinating
So when we are able to drop some animal-origin functionality, say jealousy, from our makeup, we are in fact ridding ourselves of another mark of the beast; the evolutionary mark that says we are of animal origin.
It brought to mind a thought in one of my favorite books, "So Many Miracles" by Saul Rubinek. It is the story of how his parents survived the holocaust in a small farm in Poland. The father talked about the difference between being a human being and an animal, and how the Jewish law helped,
"It always got in my mind, it bothered me, in Jewish law it is not allowed, when you get up in the morning, to right away go and eat. When you're taking your feet down from the bed, right away you have to prepare yourself with a little bit of water, to wash your fingers, and your eyes, and you have to say a prayer right away. After that you sit down at the table, and you're eating breakfast. That stuck with me and I couldn't understand why you have to do all that - if you're hungry, why can't you eat before?
Now I'm turning to Ludwig. Five o'clock in the morning, when he just opened his eyes and sat up, right away he said to his wife, and he started to push her, 'Eat! I want to eat! I want to Eat!' And she had to jump down right away, if not he was so mad...At that time, the thought came to me, the difference between an animal and a human being. ...
So the Jewish law says that when you get up in the morning, you're like any animal, no different. But an animal runs right away to eat, and a human being has to learn how to keep himself back, not to say, 'I want now, right now, and I have to get it right now.' On account of that, I understood, when I saw Ludwig, if he would wash himself, make a prayer - doesn't matter, he doesn't have to make a prayer - just wash himself, and come back to the stage of being a human being, he wouldn't be like an animal."

Hey....who took all my GUILT???
by Dawn infor years i lived under the weight of guilt.
i suppose some of it is a consequence of childhood abuses - and much of it developed over a lifetime of trying to be good enough to make it through armageddon.
i never could reach "the mark" - oh i studied a lot, went to all the meetings, aux.

I was brought up to believe (in Christendom's churches) that condemnation ("you are no good" "you are not worthy") comes from Satan. Condemnation leads to death. Condemnation drove Judas to suicide. How different from loving confrontation that leads to reconciliation, forgiveness, love and life. Loving confrontation led Peter to reconciliation with his Lord after he had denied him three times. Jesus predicted betrayal by both these men.
Congratulations on conquering guilt!

elumn8_2, you brought to mind an urban legend I had always been fascinated with. Do barcodes have anything to do with the mark of the beast?
Link to: 666 and the Mark of the Beast
I am a little worried about you, elumni, as you have just experienced a devastating rejection. And you seem to be dealing with it in a very objective manner by researching and studying. Some of this study might be a healthy outlet, but I wonder if you are spending time working through the very strong emotions that accompany such a drastic change to your life?
You know you have been betrayed. You are just starting to scratch the surface on how wrong the society is. I suggest you also spend some time thinking about what kind of boyfriend/father/man you want to be. What kind of future you want for your little family. How you might define your LIFE outside the society.

I have a theory about offices. Not politically correct at all. I think a "mixed" office of male and female works better. I have worked in all-female offices, and the petty bickering gets tiresome. The all-male warehouse I visited regularly had a Sunshine Girl wall, cigar smoke, scratching, spitting, "excuse my french", and disgusting bathrooms. In the "mixed" office, the women cut down on the bickering because they did not want to look petty in front of the men, and the men showed a little more polish. *sigh* I miss that office. They had the BEST potlucks. The guys did most of the cooking (on the grill) and the dishes, too.
Very pretty women used to intimidate me. Thinking it was not right to hold that kind of prejudice, I befriended the prettiest girl in my church (roundly resented because she could have her pick). I found out pretty girls have their own problems. She had a lot of trouble getting hired, because recruiters had trouble focusing on anything but her breasts. It was just assumed she had no brain. She was witty, intelligent, and fun. I am a better person for knowing her.
On the other hand, there were ladies I worked with that I loved to hate. Like the girl who kept hairspray in her drawer to refresh regularly through the day. I endured her engagement, and the long phone tirades she had with various vendors, as she vigorously pursued the precise shade of PEACH. PEACH bridesmaids, PEACH icing, PEACH flowers, PEACH banners. She yelled at a florist all afternoon 'cause the silk trees she ordered were the wrong shade of PEACH.
Then we applied on the same job, and she got it. Musta been the hairspray.
