  You know what's wonderful about America? We can believe any damn thing we want to. We can be Catholics, or Jews, or Atheists. Communist, Socialist, Libertarian, Gay, Straight, or in between, even Muslim or racist. All of our rights are still to be protected under the law.

  That is true under our law. It is not true under Sharia law.

  Hehe that's like saying snake handling or speaking in tongues is intrinsic to today's christian community.

  No, that is not the same thing...but your statement on it perfectly illustrates my point about this apologist view toward Islamic terrorism.

  My point was the exact same as my point on the AZ immigration law threads. America tries to have standards that make us different than most. Better. We have laws, that are in place to protect the innocent.

  OK, fine. My counterpoint is that we have a handful of posters here who jump on every thread which touches on Islamic terrorism and make it a point to defend Islam in general against Americans in general. They are invariably those posters who are the furthest left on this board. In general, they are deniers that there is an intrinsic problem with Islamic teachings on radicalism, jihad, and terrorism.

  BTW - What the AZ immigration law threads have to do with this I do not grasp. Nor FDR's politics.

  The terror attack problem is clearly by Islamic terrorists against Americans, not the other way around.

  I got the feeling they thought it was endearing!

  Exactly - some of them were practically nostalgic over stuff like the old men of the old testament coming alive on earth in the 1920s, (looking around at conventions for people with beards), the "miracle wheat", and so on.

  It was presented as a fine example of how Jehovah was leading the flock by new light.

  This kind of thing pretty much died out after the 1975 failure and the big Ray Franz apostacy scare, however.

  ok...when i left the org, i was quiet for a while....as you are, trying to get used to not being a jw robot, and trying to show the rest of the congregation and former friends and family, ..(like it matters),..that you are still nice, polite, spiritual......... not engaging in criminal acts, not smoking or taking drugs and not becoming the local slut falling out of pubs and clubs at the weekend in an alcohol induced stupor.

  then i changed my mind!

  not that i started engaging in all of the above....but that i stopped being quiet.

  the topic "no shorts, no t-shirts, no paradise", er, i mean "no shirts or t-shirts after the convention" had a post that reminded me of an experience i had that didn't really fit the subject of the thread, so i'll start my own thread and maybe we can share stories about how we have spotted jws in unique or strange settings.. this is the exchange on the other thread that sparked my memory:.

  my absolute favorite (not) was when i went to the international convention in moscow.

  i got switzerland as the side tour, and even though the convention was over and we were in another country, the females all had to be in skirts or dresses wherever we went.
