by carvin ini thought about this for years even when i was in and still believed.
i always wondered why very, very few if any jw ever said we get to go in service, it was always we have to go in service.
if you do it only because you have to and not because you want to, does that not nullify the whole giving to the lord theme?.

IF this is true (and not just another Huffington Post blog against both the military and christian religion), this commanding officer should be forced into retirement at the very least.
I find it impossible to believe that this is official U.S. military policy - given a long tradition of multi-religious chaplins, and now pro-military homosexual policy changes. Remember, they put up with the radicalized Muslim psychologist until he finally shot up the base here in Texas - and THAT level of tolerance is now under review.
I suspect that this may be a politicized misunderstanding. If not, discipline the bad apple that did it.

by Aussie Oz incame accross this piece from the 1887 watchtower tonight.... have a read... you can see russell criticising the protestants for how they are not allowed to teach anything that is not sanctioned by the church.. sounds mighty familier...and can be mirrored right back at the wt.. watchtower 1887. .
page 923 april 1887 (caps and italics russells and the wt).
nor should we ignore the assistance of any of god's children in seeking an understanding of the scriptures, but we should give attention to them only so far and so long, as they teach and explain the bible, in harmony with the bible.

It's my sense that eventually they will pare the CD-ROM down to 1980, which is when they really began to go hardcore against anyone questioning them and the treatment of DA'd dubs changed as well. That way they can completely wash away the 1975 debacle with this new generation of "born-ins". They'll demonise anything written prior to the 80s (unless its something they still agree with) and the R&F will be afraid to look up anything beyond that.
That indeed is probably what they will TRY to do - but the fact is that the information is all out there on the internet now, and they simply cannot control that. I have toyed with the speculation that the current leadership is afraid to come up with any more prophetic dates, and I wonder if this will not also water down the old "sense of urgency" that they had in the Freddy Franz days prior to 1975? Could some kind of mainstreamist reform movement be possible a few decades in the future, if numbers and finances continue their steady fall?

What Happens to those African children who are sponsored by Westerners thru charities?
by Broken Promises inim sure youve seen the ads.
skinny, impoverished, african/indian/chinese/eastern european children staring at you with their big brown eyes, begging you to send that donation to the charity.
but what happens to these kids?

A lot of this issue goes to school funding...many proponents of putting more money into education would like to see a dual-language school system in such places as LA - who are already in deep financial trouble.
I think that any kids growing up in the US who are not educated in English are being essentially socially abused and set up for future difficulty in society.
My wife is Vietnamese, (came here from Nam in 1975), and ALL of them have become fully enlish speaking as soon as they could after immigrating.

On another thread, I asked how many JWs by percentage are or have been disfellowshipped.
Somebody pretty credibly put the number at about 20% of living past witnesses.
I guess it would take a lot of effort for elders to call on all of them every year.
Back when I was an elder, there was never any official effort put into this - not even by direction from the society or circuit overseers.
