  Well, since my name got mentioned a page or two back while I was gone - let me set the record straight:

  1) - as others have pointed out (thanks) I have NEVER advocated registration of Muslims in this country. Nor did I advocate dropping nuclear bombs on Islamic men, women and children, or denial of U.S. religious freedoms to Muslims - as one uber-pro-Islamic poster seems to be suggesting.

  I just posted the above about three pages back and three hours ago on this thread.

  What the hell is the matter with you, Justicia???

  By the way, I read somewhere that this Quran burning church in Gainesville is somehow associated with the Westboro Baptist Church people.

  Now, THAT would make sense, BTS.

  he was unable to state difinitively that he was against forcing Muslims to register.

  He did not think it was necessary to state it. If you look at the thread, I posted the question incredulously that anyone could actually believe I was for registering Muslims in the U.S. like foreign agents.

  Snow, this is truly exceptional behavior for Buddhists. Genetically, Buddhism is not a violent, militant, religion/philosophy. Buddhism does not teach this. Buddhists, of course, don't always follow the precepts present in their teachings. The fault lies with those that committed this act of violence, not with Buddhism itself.

  A lot of their monks burned themselves alive in Vietnam as a kind of war protest. I don't know if this was technically taught as a Buddist belief, but it was pretty common in the 1960s.

  Mai, who escaped Nam in 1975 on the last day at the U.S. Embassy, has told me that she thought at the time it was a spontaneous individual war protest - not a religious duty or teaching. She was and still is Buddhist.

  What will they say as to why they don't celebrate ThanksGiving??

  i plan on inviting a close family member ..(who has been a jw for several years).. to share thanksgiving with us this year.

  my husband and i have never been jws.

  what exactly is a jw's reason for not taking part in thanksgiving??.

  As long as we are on the subject - does anybody else remember the acute embarrassment of being sent out door to door to sell magazines on "the worldly thanksgiving day"?

  YUK. Anybody with a half-functioning brain (even a JW) should have known that this was a horrible time to be bothering ordinary people in their homes celebrating a holiday dinner with their families. I finally quit doing this on any of the holidays long before I left the JWs, just out of common courtesy toward other people.

  Who in the hell did they think they were to be pulling this kind of stunt?

  Like Snowbird said - they just can't stand to see anyone have a good time.
