  Why can't they instead focus on being dirt cheap and reliable like the Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas back in the 70s?

  Because Obama gave all those owners $4500 each to have their cars crushed. They are now saving the whales by driving the Prius.

  Perhaps, like believers of the Loch Ness Monstocity, the Sasquatch, and the grey Alien Starships, the burden of proof shoud lie (LIE, get it?) with those who make the outrageous claims.

  In forty years, the average Internal Combustion engines being produced will be 50% more efficient than the average IC engine is today.

  Battery chargers? In a sense, that is pretty much what they are used for today - except for those rare jumper cable moments.

  Forty years? In forty years, most owners of the twelve cylinder Ferrari will have joined the Commandetore in the afterlife. With or without the blessings of the Pope, the Kyoto Accord (a very efficient Japanese car, BTW), or Al Gore.

  NWT - Accurately translated bible rumor

  has anyone on here heard of this rumor or even know if this is true?

  supposedly, on an episode of jeopardy, one of the questions asked was which version of the bible was considered the most accurately translated from the original hebrew and greek text and the answer was the new world translation.

  i tried looking this up online to no avail.

  Oops. I meant miles. Fat fingered that one. Electric cars are actually capable of blowing the doors off IC powered units with similar horsepower ratings. Instant torque and flat powerbands.

  And just think how exciting the Formula One Electric pit stops would be - overnight charge, no danger of fire, plenty of time for driver to re-acquaint himself with the girlfriends, etc. However, as a long time Porsche owner - it should be remembered that one of the first Porsche cars was an electric, and that it briefly held the land speed record back about the turn of the century (the last century).

  Not sure if people in China and Japan mention a flood in their History.

  None in China. Earlier in the thread I posted an account from the book "Aeons" by Martin Gorst. He relates how the Catholic Church sent a leading Jesuit priest to China in the middle ages. He tried to instruct the Chinese Scholars about the flood occuring around 2500 B.C. or so - and they were completely incredulous -... They had written history, including verifiable occurances of eclipses, going back several hundred years before this date.

  And no reference whatsoever to the flood myth. It appears to be a common thread to only the middle east antiquity.

  To a bible literalist, there is an embarrassing similarity to many of the legends of the early Old Testament with that of early Assyria, Babylon, and Egypt. Almost as if many of these stories were common legends between these various warring cultures. Another poster pointed out earlier that there is an almost identical story to the Bible Hero who pledged his daughter as a human sacrifice to YHWH if he won a critical battle - but this one was from ancient Syria. It also details that she was not really killed, but rather made into a temple nun...a detail not made clear in the Bible version.

  on sat., august 12, while leaders attended a garden party, ulbricht signed the order to close the border and erect a wall.. at midnight the construction began.. as the sun rose on august 13, 1961, construction was well underway and germany was totally divided by barricades within the few hours of one day!.

  in the wee hours, police and military units had begun to close the border.

  they tore up the streets and used the paving stones to create blockades.

  A horror indeed. But it did inspire the many heroic stories of escape...one of my favorites was the guy who took the windshield off of his Austin-Healey sports car and drove under the barrier while the gestapo shot at him with machine pistols. He and his girlfriend survived because he had loaded the trunk with bricks.

  Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.
