Wasn't this the same Pope who gave some Bishop a pass over some anti-Semetic remarks a while back?

Phone call to Watchtower concerning California kidnapping case and possible Witness connection
by the research lady inearlier this week, geraldo rivera appeared on the nbc today show and stated that nancy garrido, was one of jehovah's witnesses.
nancy, along with her husband phillip are both being charged in el dorado county california with multiple counts of rape, forcible lewd acts on a child and kidnapping for sexual purposes.
each were also charged with more than a dozen special allegations that could bring them the death penalty if convicted.

Best evidence seems to be his lawyers statement upon arraignment which is documented. This, of course, does NOT mean they were really witnesses - just that this was stated in court by the guy's lawyer. But -
Lawyers are not supposed to lie in court for their client by strict rules of ethics - so he must think the kidnapper has some connection.
BTW - I don't think we ex-JWs should do anything to appear we are gloating over this even if JW angle is true. As ex-JWs (which these people probably really were), we too can get painted by the same brush in a manner of thinking.

I think they must have been pretty far out on the fringes of the JW world if this was JW connection was at all real.
On the other hand, isn't it typical JW knee-jerk to not just truthfully say they were not regular witnesses (even if they had attended a little, or left years ago)? Why this garble and fade when a simple statement would have been far better?
What if these people had been stated to be Mormons? (an apt thought excercise in light of the Mormon offshoot tendency toward modern day polymarriage to minors) -
I can betcha for sure the Mormons would have been out front on the subject - supporting the kidnapped girl and family, and stating the exact facts to ward off media speculations. Remember the Salt Lake City girl - kidnapped but found a year or so later? No funny business about religion there.
This secretive behavior is what makes the JWs and the mysterious nature of the Watchtower Society/Governing Body so vulnerable when this kind of tragedy happens...

One more - reminded by "cats". Very weird special pioneer guy had a "bible study" who was one might say nearly illiterate and doubtfully of an IQ that even approached 100.
She had kids and cats crawling all over us while the "study" progresses. Pioneer is using his precious copy of the book "Two Babylons" by catholic church hater Alexander Hislop to "prove" that the conventional cross was not only wrong, but a babylonian antiquity.
One of the cats leaped up and threw forth a gigantic hairball right in the center fold of "Two Babylons".
Probably it was a witch familiar sometime in one of it's previous lives.

Why can a JW get a boob job but not a tatoo???
by cognac inthat makes no sense to me.
you'd get yourself in a jc for a tatoo but i've seen a couple of jws get a boob job and nothing happen... the hypocrisy in endless... .

One more reminder of how capricious this org. can be over what is and is not "pagan in origin".
For example, wedding rings are OK, birthdays are not. Torture stake is OK to picture in Watchtower graphics, conventional cross is pagan imagery.
Come to think of it, printed graphics in the Watchtower are perfectly OK, even of Jesus, but religious Icons in the catholic church are "idolatry". Not just the sculptures, but also even the roof of the sistine chapel and those painted on wood Russian icons.
Thanksgiving, which originated in early American christianity, is pagan (because the JWs did not think it up themselves). Yet, the similar and perfectly biblical "love feast" is also no longer practiced for vague unstated reasons.

HELP FOR LOS ANGELES RESIDENTS WHO HAVE LEFT CULTS OR HIGH DEMAND GROUPS

I know, Dogpatch (not this group, I mean) - I was just saying because I know somebody who was trying to get some help getting out of a cult (scientology, ironically) and found a cult help forum on the internet.
Incredibly, it was being run by scientology itself.
At least not even the JWs have stooped that low, as far as I can tell.

When did a lightbulb first go off in your head that something didn't seem right???
by cognac ini was about 4 or 5 years old.
they must of been talking about prejudice in the meeting or something.
that's when i first learned about it.

Hmmm ... what did people do before the lightbulb? I mean what went off in their heads? a Candle?
Edison did invent the lightbulb by candlelight (or at least gaslight), but it was a lightbulb that went off in his head.

Maybe he thought it would gain him sympathy with the court system if he had a religion? OR -
Even more horrible, maybe he thought it would provide a good shopping ground for more victims? (His "JW" wife being the unquestioning accomplice that she appears to have been.)
BTW, I was asked this question earlier about this case at work: How common are child molesters in general society (meaning all kinds, not just nut-job kidnappers or killers like this guy).
I said that I thought somewhere around 0.5 to 1.5 percent active perps, but now that I think about it - maybe it goes quite a bit higher given the secrecy of this kind of crime.

A young guy answered the door, all bleary eyed and before I could say anything, he said, "Oh, you're so pretty. But you're one of THOSE."
Remarkable presence of mind even when hung over - probably would have made a good Marine fighter jock.

While this one looks like a worthy venture, it is a known fact the the Church of Scientology has been known to start this sort of group or website and NOT IDENTIFY WHO THEY REALLY ARE.
Then, the applicants are "helped" by being indoctrinated into scientology ideas.
