in the local paper there are 2 different towns that are dealing with possible police misconduct.
one situation involves thousands of dollars worth of pot stolen from the police locker where the drugs were supposed to be safe.
now the feds and state are involved in finding out who was responsible for the theft.
Unless you toss it out really quick, Purps. Which is exactly the point.
Unfortunately, the thin blue line (good ole boy) tradition resists this all the way.
i don't know how legitimate - we do not yet have a good link - but here it is: (from a car forum i go to) -.
heard on the radio today,a loaner lexus crashed ,killing 4 on board, driver was an off duty cop, going 120+ into an intersection hit an other car, driver was on phone with 911 ,were he said no brakes[witnesses said fire was coming out of the wheels, like driver had brakes full on],prelim says dealer installed floormats jammed gas pedal on,,car had no ignition key just a pushbutton start,,sad, but my only thought is why didn't he put the shifter into nuetral ?.
most of the california posters seem to be believing that this is the real thing.
Hate to say it, but should we merge this one with the "Do you trust the Police" thread?
It did occur to me that this could have been the next guy up for the usual weekly California high speed chase...

Let's just admit it - it is the slightly overweight Progressive Insurance Lady in White that has invaded our psyche.
Why else would that Megan Fox vampire movie have totally bombed this last weekend?

Not police officer per se, but about ten years ago we had a local fire chief badly (and I DO mean badly) injured at a firemen-only "training retreat" (the reader may insert here all-night drinking party) because he had a little fally-down unconsciouse episode and fell down on a Texas Red Ant pile.
Nobody else of the rescue squad noticed. You should have seen the elliptical tragectories of the excuses & explanations for this one.
I guess they are all really just ordinary people with ordinary faults and flaws put into extra-ordinary situations for very low pay.
But still -

I saw the news story on ABC, I think. They played the 911 call, up to the point of impact. But likewise, I wondered why it would have been so impossible to shift into neutral at the first sign of trouble, rather than waiting until the car reached 120 mph.
I would suppose failure to recognize what was happening to him until high speed (being a loaner, sad to say, maybe doing a little "test run"?) - I cannot believe that this transmission could have been made in such a way that there was no emergency way to get into neutral...for sure that would be what I would have reached for instead of a cell phone...deal is, being a cop, probably he had more high-speed driving instruction than the ordinary person - and it still was not enough for this case. If you already had 120+, and then just mashed down full brakes (with full throttle still on), I would certainly think the brakes would gass out, glaze, and catch on fire instead of stopping you short of disaster. No matter how expensive or "safe" the car. Of course, American Legal Reality will soon be at work and blame BOTH Lexus and the Dealer involved. Probably the owner of the Lexus as well. Remember the mess that AUDI got into in the 1980s after several elderly drivers got on the gas instead of the brake and crashed - claiming of course that the brakes failed and "the engine ran away with the car"...?
i think many witnesses go thru the motions and may not 100% believe everything but i've kind of been subjected to only a few witnesses lately.. what's your experience regarding the genuiness of jehovah's witnesses?
are they totally committed or not?.
The closest JW to me is aging and starting to lose his mental abilities. He no longer has the capacity to witness and does not remember the study material. I wouldn't classify him in any of the categories listed. He simply no longer has the ability. And it isn't coming back.
This may be a real sad "facts of life" wakeup for many JWs as they grow older demographically. I just read that approximately 36 million Americans are in a least a disabling stage of dementia at this time. That is 10% or more of the population, and even more if you only consider the post retirement age people. The JW community will be hard put to deal with it - their emphasis was always "nobody will ever get that old" or, "if you study the WT, your mind will automatically stay active unlike those old farts that watch Cinemax all the time". Reality has a way of biting hard. Wonder if this is one of the true causes of the Bethel downsize?

One bad apple. With today's instant news obsession, even if it were 1 bad act out of a million difficult calls, it is going to get played for a week complete with the videotape.

Most of the California posters seem to be believing that this is the real thing. Some have claimed recalls on other makes on floormats/no-key ignition systems. Me? I dunno - seems like it would have easily made the weird news page on MSNBC or a TV program if real.
However, the exact thing happened to me with a 1970s era Corvette. Turning off the key of course put things back in order. Wonder what happens on these new pushbutton start cars if you really really want things shut down in a hurry?
i have not heard from this particular (former) friend in some time.
he and i first met back around 1986-7 at pioneer school in his hometown.
we were both young ms's with dreams of bethel.
You did the right thing, of course, by not lying. I would give it 70/30 that he now just gives you the deep freeze (basking, of course, in this juicy new source of gossip with his JW friends for a while).
