Ha ha. I've never stayed there, just thought it was funny with the Borg being symbolic of the Dubs....

Habits. Good, Bad and the power to change.
by Open mind inone of the benefits of mentally breaking free of jwism is that, if you allow it, at least twice a year you are provided with an external prodding to take stock of your life: your birthday and new year's.
so, what single good habit would you most like to cultivate in the near future?.
also, if you're so inclined, share the good habits that have benefited you most.

I would like to make more time to help those in need. I have really enjoyed some opportunities to actively help some needy people through some organizations that are especially active during the holiday season, but I want to seek out more opportunities to volunteer in other ways too, making an impact on the environment, my community, etc. One habit that I have pretty much resigned myself to is that it's unlikely that I will ever give up sweets totally. No matter how unhealthy they may be, I just love my desserts. :o) Like you, I also want to improve my exercise regimen...partly to counteract those desserts I can't give up. :o)

How to Keep Nosy JW Relatives at Bay
by Open mind inmy family is in the process of reaching out to establish friendships outside the jw religion.
at some point we will likely be ready to fade into total jw inactivity.
when we do that there will inevitably be numerous well-intentioned attempts to snatch us from the jaws of satan.

Thankfully for me, I have avoided most one-on-one interaction so that I haven't had to defend myself as of yet, but I have practiced it in my head a lot of times. If the conversation is such that probing questions are being asked about why I am inactive by people who I fairly recently had intimate friendship with (so I know their questions are sincerely an effort to reach out to me) I plan to tell them how much I adore them and how much I appreciate that their questions are out of sincere interest in helping me, but that I don't want to discuss my spirituality with anyone. I am hoping that even if I have to just repeat that phrase a few times, followed by redirecting the conversation to another topic, it will keep me from saying something I might regret. I don't want to hurt anyone anymore than my fade does hurt them and I don't want to say anything that will cause me to be placed in a category by the friends my comments might be shared with. If I give any reason for my inactivity, I'll either be labeled as depressed, discouraged, stumbled, apostate, faithless, etc., and I don't want to give them anything to repeat that would plug me into one of those labels. I also want to be careful to avoid saying anything that communicates that I want helped out of my slump or that if they care they will continue to reach out to help me. I don't want to give them the impression that on another day, I would feel like talking about it. It is a tricky issue. I play it out in my head a lot. Hope it goes well for you O.M.

Facebook condemned
by straightshooter inmy wife told me that at the last meeting, the elders announced that youngsters going to the skateboarding park were no longer to have any privileges in the congregation.
this is to prevent jw youngs to be rounded up if a drug raid was made at the skateboarding park.. also because of individuals requesting that they be friends on facebook that contain bad pictures, that anyone with a facebook account will automatically have their privileges removed.. sounds like the pharasees protecting the people by adding additional traditions upon them.. .

This has to be a very localized thing because every day I see JW friends' recent activity showing that they are now friends with even more JWs. Some of them are in the circuit and district work too, so it can't be a Watchtower mandate. Instead of cutting back, it seems that the active JWs are getting more involved with Facebook.

The phrase "The Truth"
by lepermessiah inso, i am curious..... how many of you have a hard time getting that phrase out of your vocabulary?.
i have been conscienciously trying not to use it at all, so now when i am in a conversation with a jw, its amazing how often they use that phrase.
i look back and wonder "god, did i say that that often?

I catch myself saying "the truth" when referring to whether or not a relative or acquaintance is still active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and it frustrates me and makes me back up every time. Hopefully it won't take me much longer to purge that term from my vocabulary.
