bad experiences with C.O.s?
by startingovernow ini am still trying to recover from an experience that i had with a c.o.
reading other discussions has helped me to start getting other bad experiences into a better perspective and since the experience with the c.o.
was really the final straw i was hoping that reading that i am not alone would help me in moving on.

Committee Meeting Wants Details, oh BS
by Leprechaun ini remember when i like a real stupid ass went to a committee meeting for enjoying committing so called immorality, when in my view i was making love and i enjoyed every dam minute of it.
well any way those stupid elders whom i knew personally for many years wanted to know every juicy (no pun intended) tid bit of what went on between me and this good friend of mine, a long time sister in good standing, i told them what the hell, you guys dont know what sex is!
you stupid asss!

I have sat on quite a few JC's in my time. If there is a confession then there is no need for details. I certainly never wanted to know the "details" just wanted to help the brother or sister stay in the "Truth". If there isn't a confession but an accusation an investigation will be required, but again no need for salacious details! It sounds to me Leprachaun that the JC you were on did not follow procedure. My issue is that Elders on these committees will often have made their minds up before even listening to the parties involved. The chances are if you are not a relative of the Elders you will be Df'd and if you are related you will be reproved. If someone has commited a naughty on more than one occasion they are assumed hardened (excuse the pun) sinners when in fact they are probably just having great difficulty meeting the impossible demands placed upon them by the org. The Elders are judge, jury and executioner and too often abuse their positions. BTW I have never been before JC so I have no axe to grind, but I have seen some terrible injustices that made my blood boil.

Flipper, that is awful! She posed a serious danger to you and your children. The Elders could never know what your personal situation was, they had no right to challenge your judgement. Endangerment of life (and spirituality ) are even in their book a legitimate reason for a separation.

Reniaa,
Thank you for taking the time to try. The society are right that when the bible touches on Science it is accurate. It does not claim to be a scientific book, so i don't expect it to be so. I do expect the organisation to be accurate when they discuss scientific things. I do have a good grounding in science, but my scientific curiosity has strengthened my belief in a creator and that is why I stayed a Witness for so many years. I feel there must be a purpose for mankind, and it is must be based on a foundation of love. What I do not see is that love reflected by the way the organisation works. Keeping everyone in a grip of fear. We have been told that we should fear displeasing Jehovah, but the reality is our fear is in displeasing men. Men who have the power to turn everything that is dear to you away from you. There are some really, genuinely wonderful Jehovah's witnesses, and they have really strong faith. But are they following the bible or someone elses interpretation of it?

by JWinprotest inhello everyone, my wife and i are currently associated with jw's.
my mom converted when i was 3 years old in 1975, my wife was born after her parents converted.
about 4 years ago however, my wife and i have seen many things that have discouraged us enough to start doing some research into the validity of this religion.

I know exactly where you are coming from. My little boy has done exactly the same - singing happy birthday in the KH. I had to tell him to be quite with a great big smirk on my face!!!

Reniaa,
that is a very good question. I can overlook imperfection in my fellow humans. In fact I was very conscientious about doing so during Judicial hearings. But when the men who are suspossed to be shepherding the congregation do so in such a judgemental manner, often making accusations that that cannot be substantiated, so that they can feel important, I have great difficulty.
I have always had issues with some of the doctrines, but have trusted Jehovah to clarify things in his due time, and realise that the Faithful and Discreet Slave are not inspired so will get things wrong. But they seem to be getting a lot wrong - and have made comments which are Just crass. They have tried to dis-credit scientific discoveries like plate tectonics (1970's), supernovas (60's 70's) and radioactive carbon dating (I think they still do). Whilst at the same time they used pseudo science to explainthings such as how the literal heart is involved in emotion.
One I have always found very difficult to believe that animals that are obvioulsy designed to kill and eat other animals are going to eat straw. Humans sinned, not the animals, so why punish the gazelle by changing the nature of the lion. Why did the ecology of the whole planet change because Adam and Eve were misled by Satan's lies?

Hi guys and gals,
I am a hypocryte. Brought up in the "truth" but know its not. But I can't leave the congregation.
If I leave I will lose all association with my family and friends. Even if I drift away I would gradually become an outcast, I couldn't cope with that. So maybe I am weak or just too frightened of what happens if I do leave.
I love my wife but she is completely devout as are her family. My mother and brother are very zealous too. I have lifelong friends who I would do anything for, who are part of the fabric that makes me what I am. If they knew what I really felt, they would shun me, not because they are bad but because they "believe all things" as long as it comes from the Governing Body or its representatives on Earth.
My kids are being brought up as witnesses and I do a family study with them. But I encourage them to check everything out in a truly Academic way. I tell them that is what the Boreans did and so should they. I have also stressed that all Humans are imperfect and noone has the right to tell you what is right or wrong unless that can prove it from the bible. I don't want my kids to smoke, take drugs or be dishonest, so I am happy to instill some the principles taught by the org. But I also want them to do the things that will make them feel satisfied with life and don't want to feel that they will be destroyed if they don't conform to the decrees of a man made organisation.
I have served as service overseer, pioneered and done everything you expect a model christain to do. It was seeing how elders really treated the flock, with total contempt, that made me question everything. I was castigated for trying to encourage "weak" ones in a non-judgemental way. I was considered soft because I really did do all I could to prevent my brothers being DF'd. I have seen grown men cry and then be cast out because others couldn't detect "true repentance". I have seen a Presiding Overseer (sorry Coordinator of Elders) run a congregation in a truly despotic way and the CO turn a blind eye to it. I have no respect for many of the Elders as they do not deserve any. There are others who are genuinely delightful people who do have the best interest of the congregation members at heart, but they are not heard amonst the voices of those who want to make a name for themselves.
It is essential that I remain anonymous, but I feel alone and need to speak to people who can relate to my experience, please don't judge me for being a hypocryte - welcome me into this community and I will respond with witty postings and any insights that I feel will be of interest. This had better be fun because if the org are right I only have a short period of time!!!!!!

a very flawed individual with a gret adeal of talent. He embarrassed the witnesses by his behaviour and that meant his dissasociation was welcome by most.
