JW's on Facebook seem like happy people
by Smoky ini just recently got a facebook page and started to look up some old jw friends (im a long time fader).
i see there pictures and comments and feel kinda jealous that they all look happy (im in a rough stage in my life).
i never was happy as a jw, and since i faded i am more comfortable in my own skin....the future looks bright for me.

They shouldn't be on facebook - opens them up to bad associations. If they are happy it is because they are not completly following the borg.

As some of you know, I have been using the last few weeks to completely re-evaluate all my beliefs. I have started reading the bible without any religious interpretation. I have come to the conclusion that if this book has divine authorship then it doesn't matter who the true god is I don't want to worship him, her or it.
I have also been thinking about the scale of the universe and the Earth's place in it. Our galaxy is like a microdot in the Universe and the Earth is a microdot in the galaxy. We are microdots on the surface of the Earth. Even less significant than the ants in my garden are to me. Why do we presume that we are so important that we are the creator's pride and joy, made in his image - oh yeah because the bible tells we are!
What was bible written for?
In the past I have always looked around me and me and seen what can only be described as design. The probability that this could all come about by chance is impossible. Well guys I was wrong. With the vast scale of the Universe any scenario is possible, including what we see here on earth, accident is as much a probability as a creator. The bible tries to provide answers to questions that we may never know the answers to, written by men who speculated on what little understanding of the universe they had at the time.
Those writers lived in a time where disputes were settled by violent conflict, is not surprising the god they created used violence to keep his creation in order and favoured the nation of people in which the writers who created him lived.
Yes God, be it Jehovah, Jesus, some form a trinity Zeus, Pluto, whoever - is just a construct to help people make some sense of what they could observe.

WT Society Makes JW's Feel Bad about Themselves - No Self Worth
by flipper ini have noticed this a lot in attitudes of witness relatives i've talked with over the last few years , as well as other former witness friends i have talked to.
many witnesses feel bad about themselves due to having it drilled into them that we are all " sinners " who allegedly inherited " sin and imperfection " from adam and eve .
that essentially humans are " born dead " or in a " dying " condition due to alleged " inherited sin " .

Flipper once again you have started a very thought provoking thread. I have seen many very intelligent, gifted JW's who have had their gifts stifled and their potential thwarted byu the Policies of the WTS. This compounded with the teaching that we are too sinful to achieve anything worthwhile anyway makes for an organisation of underachievers with very little self esteem. No wonder their is so much unhappiness and so many who can't be bothered to see that they are trapped in a cult.

2009 "Keep On The Watch" is a milestone convention like Cedar Point- not!
by JimmyPage inmy dad hasn't been to the convention yet but he is very excited to go.
he has been told by a friend of his who went that it is a milestone convention like cedar point, ohio and that after this, nothing will be the same again.. from what i know he is in for a disappointment.
i think they could safely call this year's assembly theme "much ado about nothing"!.

KH Games
by cantleave ineven though my attandance at meetings is lessening, i still have to attend so as not to lose my income, friends and family.
i've started playing games to make the meetings go faster, for example, i have started annoying the hall servant by making silly requests such as asking him to turn the aircon on, then 10minutes later saying things like , "thanks for that but it looks like sister elderly is getting cold - she has just put her jumper on".
i also look for brothers and sisters who haven't got one or the books or the okm and make a real meal at getting one to them (its amazing how much noise you can make fumbling around the literature cupboard).. i am running out of ideas, can anyone else suggest something to to take the dullness out of the meetings.

2009 Drama Synopsis and Comments
by jabberwock inthis year's drama was based on the parable of the prodigal son.
the theme was "your brother was dead and came to life".
as some have probably heard, it is a modern day story based on that parable, so there are no fancy costumes or fake beards.. .
