  I want to do volunteer work - this is classic

  it has always bothered my how witnesses are discouraged from doing volunteer work because "preaching to them about the truth is the best thing we can do!

  " ok, yeah, whatever.

  it's true that the bible talks about preaching as being important for christians, but that's far from being the only thing that christians are encouraged to do for their fellow humans.

  AllTimeJeff / WTwizard - You are both so right. Anything we have done a loyal members of the borg, was a decision made under the influence. I was never particularly ambitious and my appointment as an Elder was a bit of surprise. I always out it down to the fact I was quite good on the platform and could think on my feet if reqired.

  In the few JC I sat on I tried to be as fair as possible but that never seemed to be the case with the other two committee members, they really did want to weald some kind of power. In retrospect it was probably because I had my own business and was successful so I didn't need to prove anything by being an Elder / Hounder (WTWixard I am beging to fully grasp where you are coming from - I love your posts!)

  Wasanlder Once, I wish I never got involved in apostacy case, but I did and that is why I asked the question. I was part of a committee where we said a guy had DA'd himself, by his actions, for attending other churches. His siblings haven't spoken to him since and his parents have next to no contact. During the JC he mentioned Russells grave and pyrimidology, I dismissed it with the usual "light gets brighter" BS. I wish I had taken notice then it would have got me thinking earlier. One day I think I will make an apology to him, hopefully he will appreciate it as much as choosing life did.

  does anybody remember which scripture it is in the greek scriptures (i want to say it was of paul's writings) that the jw's used as a reason that women had no privileges that a man could have in the congregation?

  i remember doing research on it for a return visit.

  basically the jist of it is that because of eve's sin, all women are inferior.

  All this is reinforcing my growing belief that the bible really does contradict itself, contains men's opinions and is not inspired aof god and beneficial for all things. It does have good principles but then so does the Koran, chicken soup for the soul and Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy

  <<part i. i dont recall discussing the great disappointment of 1975 as a family.

  i was only 5 and my older and wiser brother was 8. what i can remember was the muted sense of excitement we both felt in 1977. shortly after elvis died my dad announced we were moving off the island back to the scottish mainland.

  i didnt connect the death of elvis with our big move, and rightly so.

  i've been doing a lot of thinking and have been leaning toward a new conclusion about god.

  i'm thinking that i believe in his existance but think that he does not play an active role in our lives.

  he does not cause evil but also does not bless...... what do you think?.

  Look at our planet in the scale of things. Less than a spec of dust in a galaxy comprising billions of stars. That Galaxy is a spec compared to the billions of galaxies in the universe. Millions of stars, most most larger than our own are being destroyed every minute due to balck hole activity, and natural death, as many are being formed. How much interest due you show a spec of dust floating in your house- even if that spec of dust is comprised of skin cells from your own body? I don't see why people get offended by what is in the end a logical conclusion.

  and why did i accept the red pill, but my parents and everyone else is content with the blue pill?.

  Becoming an elder helped me to take the Red Pill. I couldn't believe the bickering, hypocrisy and nepotism. I found the Judicial process was unfair and unloving. The elders were not caring shepherds but organs of a police state. My disillusionsment made me look at the internet, I found this site, which seemed to be populated by people who had experienced what I was / am going through and my eyes were opened.

  Anyone heard of Watchtower policy change concerning pedophiles

  i'm passing this along from someone else on another discussion board.

  the claim of any substantive change in the policy on pedophiles is news to me.

  can anybody verify or falsify this claim?.

  The "Pay Attention " book on P93, under the heading Sexual misconduct, including adultery, fornication and other forms of Pornea states this,

  "also included are sexual abuse of children, including practices involving a catamite (a boy kept for purposes of sexual perversion). (Deut. 23:17,18 ref b., ftns). Victims of sexual abuse need to be treated with extreme thoughtfulness and kindness. Elders should always do what they reasonably can to protect children from further abuse; follow the society's directives on such matters (g85 1/22 p.8)

  In addition there is the hand written notes from the Elders school from a couple of years back which says

  "If so immediately contact the legal desk at the Branch Office. Refer to the permanent file and do not ask probing or intimate questions (Letter TABOE Dec 1 2000).

  Out of interest this letter says that victims and anyone who has knowledge of the event can contact the secular authorities if they want.

  his 1100 mile walk is over.

  he will be in dc for 3 days, visiting homeless shelters and drawing attention to the plight of homeless children in the united states.
