How
LongWeretheCreative
Days?
What about the length of the creative days? Were they literally 24 hours long? Some claim that because Moses—the writer of Genesis—later referred to the day that followed the six creative days as a model for the weekly Sabbath, each of the creative days must be literally 24 hours long. (Exodus 20:11) Does the wording of Genesis support this conclusion?
No, it does not. The fact is that the Hebrew word translated “day” can mean various lengths of time, not just a 24-hour period. For example, when summarizing God’s creative work, Moses refers to all six creative days as one day. (Genesis 2:4) In addition, on the first creative day, “God began calling the light Day, but the darkness he called Night.” (Genesis 1:5) Here, only a portion of a 24-hour period is defined by the term “day.” Certainly, there is no basis in Scripture for arbitrarily stating that each creative day was 24 hours long.
How long, then, were the creative days? The wording of Genesis chapters 1 and 2 indicates that considerable lengths of time were involved.

I'm even finding the ones I like are getting annoying........
by cantleave injust had a friend round for a couple hours, he is our congo secretary, and the wife was tweaking a spreadsheet for the congregation report.
whilst he was here one of the topics that came up was the old urban legend that nasa scientists found that there is a missing day by undertaking some computations regarding the solar system.
apparently one of the other elders heard about this and mentioned it after the fs group this morning.. if you don't know what i am talking about follow this link http://www.snopes.com/religion/lostday.asp.

Pat1060, I am sure you are right. I find have less in common with them. A work colleague quoted CT Russell the other day (apparently he said "don't worry, just work") and my reaction was "if Russell said that then I had better start becoming a worrier". The trouble is for 2 days I week I have to work with JW's and I find them more irritating. I find myself rarely speaking to them now and just getting on with work.

"JW leaders go beyond what is written in the bible. "
Show the scriptures that say we should dress and groom according to the stipulations laid down by the WTS.
Show me the scripture that states our kids should nogt get a college education.
Show me a scripture that states the FDS are the GB of the WTS and were chosen in 1919.
Show me a scripture that say specifically that Birthdays are wrong but wedding anniversaries are OK.
Show me a scripture that says shunning family and friends is right when they disagree with a man made organisation.
I could go on!!!!!!!!!

I pointed out to my friend that this is just legend and has been debunked by NASA. I added that Elders should be careful not to spread these types of myth because some of the congregation will propagate the myths and the Elders and others in the congregation will lose credibility (not that I really care). He reaction was "we wouldn't expect Satan to use NASA who are part of his system to do things that will give credence to the bible".
The fact the Urban Legend, a downright lie, was being used by all sorts of religious groups, including R+F witnesses, to give credence to the bible was apparently OK!
In the past thisn sort of conversation wouldn't have bothered me, but this eveing it really peed me off. This guy is very intelligent, succesful and generally quite wise, but he was completely oblivious to the fact that his comment was totally irrational and non-sensical.
