Haven't met any presidents myself but my mother says when she was a little girl, that when Abraham Lincoln passed through town he spent the night at thier house. Would not hear of such things now a days for preidents need to be heavily gaurded. Come to think, I think I seen on TV that after Abraham Lincoln was shot is when they started guarding the presidents...

Does the average American get to meet a past/present President?
by Mattieu injust wondering..... i had the opportunity to meet former us president george bush snr (we still had to address him as mr. president) and his wife barbara.
i was emcamped with their entourage for a week on an australian visit some years ago.
real eye opener as to the workings of the secret service, i got an invite to the secret service wind up party at a night club the day the bushes left oz, straight out of a movie that night ;-).

Conscience matters™
by serenitynow! inotwo's b-day thread got me thinking about this strange jw loophole.. did anyone use the rationale of something being a "conscience matter" to do something that may not have been explicitly condemned in the scriptures or in the lit, or not confess something?.
i realize i did that for the acceptance of b-day discounts, holiday work bonuses, etc.
also for r rated movies, and going to bars.. i did during the last presidential election when i voted for the first time while still a believing jw.

May as well, always getting accused of someting that isn't true any ways.
Just the other day I was walking down the street and seen this little girl crying because her cat was hit by a car and I told the little girl that it wasn't that bad because only the cats tail was broken so I tied a stick on the cats tail to hold it in place and a police officer charged me for retailing pussy on the street.

I thinks the scriptures say not to practice fornication.
I thinks I would be trying to find someone who likes me.

What would you do in this situation?
by highdose ini have a freind who is a great cook and loves to cook for freinds at his house.
the trouble is: he is not a great cleaner!.
the result being that the dinner table is caked with dryed on food, the plates and cutlery the same.

Not to change the subject really but I just remembered of a time I went to visit a couple that where welfare recipients to have dinner they lived in a run down place with a concrete floor and the food was terible. The pork chops where like 99 percent fat and I could not eat it, so they ate my portion too, then another time they wanted me to eat breakfast. I thoght bacon and eggs could not be as bad as the pork chops where so I took them up on their offer and them eggs where real bad EW they where bad and the bacan was mostly fat like the pork chops.
Then I took the guy with me to work and he branched off from working with me with some one else and got himself and his wife a nice place to live, cars, etc.
Then they invited me to dinner again and I was very hesitent but went any way, and I tell you that was some really good spaghetti.
"Oh man it was good"

This guy went to the mountains to visit his brother who had been a hermit for several years and they had dinner together and while they where eating the guy said to his hermit brother "Your dishes sure aren't very clean" and the hermit said "Why they are just as clean as soap and water can get them" and then when they where done eating the the hermit set the plates on the floor and whistled and hallerd out "Here Soap come on boy" whistled again and hallerd out "Here Water" whistle whistle "Here Boy" Here Boy"

What wrong with being a witch?
by free2beme inas someone who is wiccan, i do not have a problem with someone in politics like o'donnell saying she did witchcraft in the background.
however, i must say, i think she is full of crap.
as if she did 'date a witch' like she said ... she would not have had her first date on a 'satanic alter.

You all remind me about one time I had a box of books that I left at some JW's house to hold for me for a couple of weeks, there was no lock but the box was closed up with the flaps tucked under nice and neat. Didn't dawn on me someone would snoop through private property, but when I come back and picked up the box of books the book on how to do witchcraft was missing.
I did not know if a full fledged JW took my book and did something with it like burned it or one of the kids that where living double lives took it for themselves. Either way I concidered it tresspassing and theft but what would I say about it. Am I to ask JW's who stole my instruction manual on how to do whitchcraft.
Been more than 35 years and still bothers me a little. May be that is why they wouldn't baptize me.
