one explanation I got:
thanksgiving goes back to the pilgrims in america, where they often killed poor Indians, thats why we dont celebrate it....seriously, that was the only explanation
almost the same BS as with birthdays, toasting etc....
my first post here.
i wrote this little article about why jws don't celebrate thanksgiving.. check it out here: http://hubpages.com/hub/what-jehovahs-witnesses-believe.
let me know what you think of it.. god bless.

andre, who had served jehovah for years, had the bitter experience of being led astray.
by apostate thinking.
he felt that having a quick look at an apostate web site would not be dangerous.he recalls: initially, i was attracted to the so-called truths that the.
this article is not for those, who read regular apostate sites, even the WTS knows, that they are lost
it is for those, who are curious (which may backfire though) and for those, who stumble at apostate sites, read a few lines and are confused. They may actually believe this experience and take it as excuse, not to think further, and bury all mind troubles, and continue following blindly the GB. because anything, that may cause doubts, is just something taken out of context.
For an active, even occasional doubting JW, anything apostate is soo demonized, he would never consider reading apostate stuff. This article is designed to reinforce this thinking and to add the notion, that it is useless anyway, and it would be just an unnecessary detour on the quest for truth.
first off, forgive me if i'm guilty of being judgemental.
i got my own fair share of mental problems.
it goes without saying that a bunch of us on this forum are misfits and freaks.
very good post MLE !!
I thought about it before too.
Its difficult to measure a person just by their posts, to determine, whether somebody is nuts or normal (at least to some reasonable extent).
It needs more, behaviour, face expressions, gestures, tone of voice etc...
Im also very much with baltar447, agreeing still on many main doctrines of JW, but getting more and more pissed off for the Pharisaic rulership they have...
since my personal sitaution does not allow to talk with anybody as open as here, I still come and enjoy the forum, learn from comments and participate sometimes in debates.
randy/dogpatch has posted some interesting material about troubles in the organization.
this info generated a lot of skepticism about the possibility of watchtower fragmentation.
frankly, it is very easy to be skeptical considering everything that ordinary witnesses are willing to believe or put up with.. i think it would be useful to realistically consider what sort of event(s) would bring the watchtower down or cause its fragmentation?
as long as there are people who "need" an org to tell them what to do, it will never be brought down,
I agree with wobble, with more ducation and information available, sooner or later numbers will shrink, but still, there are those who need the org. Even now, almost half of publishers are weird people, who will always deny the facts, and defend the org at any cost, just because it is their mother, their "where else should we go"
as much as I would ike a finish for the WTS, it will not happen soon....
hm, actually in my congo, most of the weird ones are not elders, and we have many weird ones,...in fact, being not weird is one of the requirements here to become an elder,
however, the more I learned the truth about the truth, the more any JW seems weird to me, even me sometimes....
isnt that weird ?
let us know what got you questioning wbts in the first place.
i've got a theory that it starts with people hurting us and only then does the "apostate" turn to looking at the beliefs.. anybody who started questioning beliefs first?.
doctrine, especially their denial of responsibility of 1975, their no no to certain pagan practices, while others are accepted, their weird blood doctrine (fractions, components, autologus blood etc)
when it comes to people, well some were real as-holes, but most are ok, even really likeable some of them...
yep, i miss those good old field service days but now i'm not allowed to join in the house to house work.
so i've decided to do what i was taught to do instead; letter writing.. i'm going to take the money i once contributed to the kingdom hall and buy stamps with it.
then i'll give a good witness to many in my area or in my state or across the country.
lol @ mle
so funny your experience,

field service, omg, I most of the time goe with my wife, she never was really fond of it, so we do some Rv that are scattered around the territory, and only very little ddd (door-to-door-disturbing work)
however, sometimes I miss the time when I really did enjoy it, when I thought, placing magazines or reading a scripture is success...now i know its all BS, ....
chapter three from 'shepherding the flock of go' published by the wts of penn/ny as part of their worldwide bible educational work.
the wts is a non-profit whose publications are not for sale but are freely given to those who show 'genuine' interest..... while not required, a donation is always joyfully accepted .
well i was going to stick to the boe ltr for a 'pre-view' but somebody deleted my sendspace links.
and it doesnt make any sense, why should Jehovah bless a brother, who went against the clear direction from Gods org by not confessing his sin ?
would it not also mean, God condones such behaviour ?
or is it just a way, to keep elders in their position, because there are ot many any more willing to slave for the slave ?
so supposedly.... the devil had access to all the prophecies written about jesus, right?
it was all "written aforetime" so he knew in advance the details that would help people identify the messiah.
he was aware that, for the sake of god's will, jesus would have to die.. why didn't satan just protect jesus?
asked myself this question often,
why is Satan in such a hurry since 1914 ? did he not know beforehand, when the gentile times end ? Russel even knew it ?
why did he manuever things in a way to fulfill prophecies in order to prove the bible right ?
why did he attempt to kill baby-jesus, when he must have known that God will protect him ?
etcetc
