I don't think it's possibly for anyone to be wholly unbiased. The best we can do is make a committment to ourselves to always ask "why".

Question about Accuracy & Persuasion
by troubled inin my social psychology class, we are studying a chapter on persuasion.
here is an interesting excerpt from our study book, "social psychology: unraveling the mystery" by douglas kenrick, steven neuberg, and robert cialdini, page 171. please tell me if you think it applies to jws, ex-jws, and this board in general.. .

Does it really matter?
by ItsJustMe inif you belong to a religion because your family & friends are there, you try to be a good person, you enjoy the activities you are involved in, but deep down you really believe that there is not only one true religion, does it really matter if you remain in the religion of your family and friends?
realistically speaking, what's the harm?

Thanks Xena...
In an opposite circumstance, I have been raised a certain way and never felt left out at school. I actually enjoyed the attention being different brought me.
I think the biggest issue I have right now is that rather than encourage communication, a religion can stifle honest communication between people who love each other. I think that has to be wrong.

Mispronunciations at the meetings
by TR inmoxy raised a point in the "exaggeration" thread that aggravated me at the meetings.
mispronunciations.
moxy mentioned the word 'hyperbole' as frequently being mispronounced.. another one that bugged me was 'epitome'.

Thanks for responding to my question. Obviously, this is a journey we all have to take alone, but a census always helps!

active and happy jw
by scumgrief ini am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

If you were an active and happy JW, you would know that posting anything to this website could jeopardize that. In fact, just reading anything on this website has changed that, hasn't it?
