I recently got back in touch with someone that I grew up with- we hung out with different groups, so we didn't hang out back then. She told me one night about how a couple of the power trip elders called her into the back room, supposedly to encourage her to get baptised.
What was supposed to be 15 minutes turned into 2 hours. She said that they ripped apart everything that she did- her good grades, her friends, how she spent her time, etc. She was bawling as she was telling me this. I said, "It was like they mentally and emotionally raped you, wasn't it?" She just nodded, still crying. She went from being a happy, friendly, and social girl to a traumatized shadow.
That was when she was 16. She's in her mid 30's and the way she was treated still affects her today. Unfortunately, even though she's physically out, mentally she's still in.

Did you drink a lot of water too? For me, I need to start my cranberry pills as soon as I get that warning tingle. Perhaps if you wait too long, it's not as effective.

Mayo Clinic says, "Sexual intercourse may lead to cystitis, but you don't have to be sexually active to develop it. All women are susceptible to cystitis because of their anatomy — specifically, the close proximity of the urethra to the anus and the short distance from the urethral opening to the bladder."
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/urinary-tract-infection/DS00286/DSECTION=causes
Since the female urethra is only a few inches long, it's not hard for bacteria to get into the bladder.
Personally, if I feel like a uti is coming on, I start slamming the water and cranberry fruit pills. Usually stops utis for me!

Just wondering ....
by talesin inthere are many new posters here, and i'm very interested to learn why you chose your screen names.. .
one book i read, the mists of avalon, was very important to me.
among the main characters was merlin, who in the book, was called "taliesen".

I really like jade, the stone, in jewelry, carved pieces, etc. There was some kind of superstitious bs reason why jws weren't supposed to wear jade, so I wanted it for my user name. It was already taken, so I just added "-en" to it.

Good job! I'm also in my thirties and in college. I'll be graduating next spring.
If anyone's debating starting college as a non-traditional student, give it a shot! There's more of us nontrads out there than you think.

What has the WT$ TAKEN from you?
by VampireDCLXV inif you've been around here long enough, you will have seen people saying how they "gave up" or "sacrificed" certain things so that they could be good little jws.
what about those of us who were growing up in it and we didn't even have a choice in the matter?
what about those of us from whom some things in life were forcibly ripped away, things that 'normal' people take for granted in their life?.

Bump!
One thing that I really feel that I missed out on was getting to know my extended family. My parents became JWs when I was about 5, so I can vaguely remember holidays. But we pretty much stopped having much to do with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Now that I'm older and have a say in what I do, I've been hanging out with them more. I've been finding out how much fun they can be.
My folks would say, "They only want to get together during holidays." Well, no shit! That's the only time that pretty much everybody has time off work! Grrrr

It's been a year now... (Yay me.)
by VampireDCLXV ini guess that my one year anniversary here has come.. i've made lots of friends... and perhaps a few enemies.. i've made people laugh... i've pissed people off.... i've made people think... i've made people cringe.... i've moved ahead in some areas of life... still stuck in some others.... i've had a lot of fun... i've had some tense moments and tears.... i've been able to make sense to people... spoke utter nonsense at other times.... to my 'fans' here: thanks for the support and having my back... .
to people who hate my guts: go ahead... take your best shot... .
either way, i win.

What was something that you loved but were denied as a JW?
by Chemical Emotions ini could go on and on about all the things i loved, but i'll keep it brief and just mention one, rather trivial thing: music.
i love grunge and punk, and occasionally heavy metal, and can't listen to a lot of it as a witness..

For me it was learning to play musical instruments. My mom had a piano and I would watch and listen to her play. I would then pick out the songs that she had played by ear. I had the talent and desire, but lessons on how to play was something that my parents said would happen "in the New System".
I was venting to my husband about how much I had wanted to learn violin and he bought me one last Christmas. He's such a sweetie!
