by NikL inso back in the olden days, (the 1980s) it was really frowned apon for a man and woman who are unmarried to be alone together without a chaperon.
where i came from they probably carried it to the exreme but that's the way i understood it was supposed to be throughout the org.. i have been out for years, but my wife continues to be a faithful dublitron.. anyway, she cleans houses, and one of her clients is a recently widowed brother.
i have come to find out that many times he is there when she cleans his house.

What's the most insensitive thing you have been told while grieving?
by 3rdgen ina few years ago my 21 yr old firstborn and only son died in an accident.
i was an active jw at the time.
in fact , i was at the meeting when it happened.

In high school, a friend of mine was killed in an auto accident. I sat next to him in several classes and we helped each other with homework and projects. He was not a Witness.
One of the girls at the hall made a comment: "Why is Jadeen so upset? It's not like ******* is going to be resurrected." She didn't know the guy and she already decided that he wasn't worthy of resurrection. I can't describe how angry that made me.

Ban Sisters from wearing pants/slacks!!! Why? Who "wears the pants" at the hall?
by Witness 007 inin 1979 my mum was studying and came to the meeting in a womens suit with pants/slacks.
she was told by her teacher not to wear pants to the meetings only dresses.
well, my mother never wore pants again....ever!

I could relate to the section about being stuck with a crappy car. I had an older, usually reliable car that would always need repairs after I had saved up some money for a newer, more reliable car. Of course, I couldn't get enough saved up to get an affordable car payment on a newer one, so I got stuck paying repairs. It took me a couple of years and a chance promotion at work before I could get out of that cycle.
