i was just thinking that if truly the destruction of jerusalem would have any significance today, why should there be so much confusion surrounding its date and discrepancies regarding the names of those neo-babylonian kings.. .
if truly that event was significant, why should it be so difficult for the almighty god to pen down the exact date in the bible and shield us from unnecessary debates, reliance on scholars and opaque explanations from religions with ulterior motives?.
i cant comprehend any reason to justify the silence from god on this date.. .
But I wondered too, would it have been so difficult for god to include some books in the bible itself that had the astronomical observations and other materials necessary to date the events in the bible? Would have made things much easier, without the need for the evil secular records.

Thanks. The question by the worldly who doesn't know much would now be, How come Kingdom Halls are not used for longer? I once was in a church that was built in 1520, and is still in use. I know that Jehovah's witnesses haven't been around for that long (I've been talking to apostates, of course), but I would have expected an old kingdom hall to be in use today.

"crisis of allegiance" is a slim, but excellent book written by a professor of religion on the events in lethbridge, alberta, around 1981, that led to the expulsion of jim penton, a jw who believed he was anointed but also happened to think the wts had some doctrines wrong.. it's a great read that ties in quite closely with the campaign to get rid of ray franz, showing the dirty tricks used by the society to rid themselves of someone who dared to question them.
penton was an academic who the society loved when he wrote a book on their human rights legal challenges ... but when he expanded his research and decided to do a book on their history, pow!

My perspective is that Penton's book could use a little more history outside of the United States and Canada. I think that sometimes he is too soft on the WT, but that is me.

I think this is all about making "offers that you can't refuse". Say you offer the Governing Body a very good business. For example, say I went absolutely gaga and offer to donate my castles in Europe. Now, I'm very stupid and obtuse for a Bible study, but I like the Governing Body (which clearly shows I'm stupid and obtuse). Would they object to my being worldly?
