Da Cheech, I agree with you. The study edition CAN be too much for a worldly. And there's more. What would an elder think if he knew I have a copy of the "Pay Attention to your Flock" book, that I got over the internet?

I agree with Lady Lee. It is very easy to keep track of IP addresses. I am not sure if that means they can track which website you come from, unless they use spyware (which is not that unbelievable a thing to happen). For those curious, you can buy Anonymizer (www.anonymizer.com). One solution costs 29.99 a year as we speak. The most expensive solution costs US$ 100. Just google "anonymous surfing" and you will find options. And, who says you can't surf the internet in an internet cafe?
Also, I am not sure if USB modems can be used to surf "anonymously". I mean this device: http://www.zte.com.au/main/MF636.htm. You can have your usual IP provider, which you can use to connect to the society, and then you can use this device to connect THROUGH A DIFFERENT NETWORK, therefore, using a different IP, to the rest of the web. The geeks might say if this is an easy solution, but I believe it is.
I also agree that this is meant to cut costs. The brothers and sisters will print their own stuff. On the other hand, this will create another problem. There will be no way to doctor the Watchtower in the future, because there will be many copies out there.
However, it will not have an effect on the books and the magazines meant for the worldlies, because, if not many people read the Watchtower or Awake! anyways, just imagine how many will willingly download them. This is not a good solution in many of the poorer countries, where some people don't have access to the web. And, how are they going to get rid of that printing behemoth without losses? How many hateful worldlies would become witnesses without a brother or sister by their side? That is why they are restricting the internet access to the study versions.
Which means you will be able to post them here, and the worldlies might eventually get to know what the real thing is before they enter. There is a reason why they restrict the access to study versions.

What did the Bible mean re: worldliness?
by greenie inthis topic was broached in another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/184175/1/please-help-re-objections-to-thanksgiving) and i was interested in expanding more on it.
i am no bible scholar and view the bible as - gasp - more of a guidebook than literal one, but my impression has always been that the worldy bunch involved non-christians (personally i'd say non-religious ones, no offense anyone!
)or pseudo religious ones that were unethical and/or immoral.

Guys, I didn't make my definition quoting the Bible. I meant to say that, whatever the definition in the Bible, the USE of the term is what matters. And it is used to say that those who don't agree with your religion are meant to die, or burn in hell, or be treated as inferiors, or hated secretly... you get the point, I'm sure. Replace "worldly" with "infidel" and there you go, you have the Moslems. Replace "worldly" with "Gentile" and you have the Pharisees. Et cetera. All those who refuse to be part of God/Jehovah/Allah's Kingdoms.
Among the worldlies we can count, for example, the Native American Indians who refused to accept the Teachings of the Almighty, read to them in Spanish, a language they didn't understand, by an army of men who, by all traces, were about to kill them. Well, they refused to belong to the true Church, didn't they?
How many atrocities have been justified on the basis of religion? The basic concept is, "you're worldly, and I'm not".

by dgp inas some of you might know by now, i am not a jehovah's witness, and never have been.
and, never will be, thanks to you and other people like you who have opened my eyes to what the society really is.
as someone who never crossed the fence, quite often i feel that i can't contribute with anything to the people who left, or who are at the fence, or who are very deep into the society and seem unreachable.

Mouthy, I am not where your relatives might knock at my door, but I will bear your post in mind when another witness knocks at my door.
doublelife, I am afraid your uncle is not aware of the meaning of that. At the time, I happened to live where that wall falling down did matter, and very much, to the point that we were not allowed to watch it on TV. There was no way they could prevent us from knowing it had happened, however. And I don't find your post off-topic. The Communist also have their Governing Body, their dogmas, their Holy Fathers, their hounders (thank you, WTWizard; the KGB), and their intolerance of anyone else. They also sweep their problems under the rug. The people are also told that they are happier than anyone else, while everyone knows that is simply not so. They also ask you to die for a lie. And, there's the feeling that you can't trust your own spouse because he or she might turn you in if you happen to disagree with the official line. The parallels are just there.
How does it feel to know that you can speak your mind? That's the difference.

"Worldly" might have a meaning in the Bible, Greenie, but the real concern is what meaning it is given to in the real world. "Worldly" usually means "not of my religion", hence despicable. In my view of things, the most unchristian and inhuman belief of all: thinking that God, Creator of all, despises those who, like the Chinese of centuries past, for example, never heard a word about the Bible. And God would be entirely to blame here, since it was He who supposedly chose the Jews, who were not that many, instead of, say, the Chinese, who have always been more numerous.
"Worldly" is the imaginary crutches that support "holier than thou" behaviors.

Evolutionists - please help!
by Georgiegirl inok. (taking deep breath) i am finally at that point in my recovery where i am ready to look at evolution as more than a loose theory which is clearly disprovable by the fact that all the bones proving it could be in a coffin.
or, um, some illustration like that.. i feel like first i have to "unlearn" the jw teaching of evolution to learn what "real" evolution is.
then, learn about that and then see how i feel.

If I'm not mistaken, John Paul II said that the Catholic Church could no longer hold evolution to be a lie. These were not his exact words, but the meaning of what he said was something like "the fossils are there. How can we sustain the dinosaurs did not exist, or were planted by some evil design? Of course evolution is more than just recognizing that "the bones are there", but the bones being there do serve as a starting point.

As some of you might know by now, I am not a Jehovah's witness, and never have been. And, never will be, thanks to you and other people like you who have opened my eyes to what the society really is. As someone who never crossed the fence, quite often I feel that I can't contribute with anything to the people who left, or who are at the fence, or who are very deep into the society and seem unreachable. I may have something to contribute this time. I hope it does help something for anything.
In another thread, The Oracle wrote this:
What a glorious joy it is to be a part of the human family, to truly care for your fellow humans in such a non-judgmental and loving way!
He was a JW, and feels great to finaly be able to share with us the infidels.
Well, witnesses or former witnesses, that is the way I feel, too, about all those of you who finally left the Borg. By setting yourselves free, you allow us, the outsiders, to welcome you and share what we treasure the most. By going to the fence and jumping over it, you set us free, too. You give us a chance to love you, and to be truly human to you, instead of slamming our doors in your faces. We can see the human in you, and recognize ourselves in your own pain.
As I saw the celebration about the tearing down of the Berlin wall, I could but hope that some day, in the near future, we might see this wall torn down, too. Maybe we will be honored to see Ray Franz pushing the first domino.
To all those who are leaving the Borg, DON'T GIVE UP! To all those who have to stay in, KNOW THAT THERE'S SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO CARES ABOUT YOU! To those who are in the LIE, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR.

Dealing with JW anger
by loosie inok i need some suggestions form others here on how to deal with anger as a result of being a jw for so many years.. i am normally an easy going person.
i am friendly and easy to get along with as long as you have a sense of humor and aren't a sexist.. i am trying to live well by finally going back to school and no longer living for this world to end.
i am much happier because of leaving the jw's.

While I am not a JW, I have made enough mistakes in my own life to realize that I have sort of wasted a few years, and I was not duped; I was simply stupid. I don't want to minimize your experiences as JW's, which I probably will never fully understand, but I can offer my own experience as a comparison. The people here have given you great advice: look to the future. Be keen on having a full life from now on. Don't worry if you don't get it right the first time, as that is unavoidably human. Just keep going, and make sure you are happy.
I am glad that you're out. Let me give you my belated welcome.

by Heartbreaker ini ordered both of franz books, and have received just by dumb luck the coc first, and will start reading it tonight.
my husband hates to read, and i could spend every waking moment doing so, so i have committed to reading the book aloud to him, and we will do so in the evenings for as long as it takes to go through the whole thing, and then start on the 2nd.
also, i've decided to start looking into getting my rn degree, i've always thought i'd be good at it, and it should follow me if i decide to move, nurses are needed everywhere.

Heartbreaker, I am happy that you're reading. I hope your husband will get the point as well.
Though I don't personally own it, I understand that "The Gentile Times Reconsidered", by Carl Olof Jonsson, is a book that disproves whatever the society says about 607 B.C. It was that book that convinced Ray Franz that the society was wrong in that regard. Maybe that would be a good purchase, too.
Ray Franz's books are good for everyone who calls himself or herself a Christian, or even for an atheist who wants to really understand what Christianity should be like. You won't be disappointed.
I can't wait for you to let us know that you're finally free. Ray will help you a lot in that regard. I believe that the world hasn't thanked the man enough for what he has done.
Give a hug to your children from me.
