No natural affection? Jehovahs Witnesses fulfill this scripture
by jambon1 inanyone who can turn their back on their flesh & blood sons and daughters, mothers and fathers fulfill this prophecy perfectly.. people who do this are utterly unloving & cruel.
it has lead thousands of people to feel issolated, alone & in many cases suicidal.
how can such a thing originate with god?.

Billy, just a comment on your post. If affection cannot come "unless the cult leaders tell you so", then it's not affection. Again, it's just following the leader.
How sad.

Planted a seed today... Update on de-program of my 16 year old son
by Aussie Oz inwell, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.

There's another thing you can use to your advantage. Since the society itself is using the internet to spread their messages, and you can download MP3s, et cetera, then the society itself considers the internet a good thing, if used properly. I guess that should make inroads with your child.

I understand that the way to help a witness is to present him or her with information or facts that will get him or her thinking. I understand that heavy use of the Bible or discussions to prove them wrong lead to nothing, because people go into their "I-won't-listen-to-you, Satan" mode and, also, because subconsciously they realize they have been duped and refuse to accept they were so gullible.
With regard to the internet, I think you can talk about the good things it does offer to people. For example, free software, communication, information. You can tell him that, yes, there are many bad things out there, but, in general, the internet is a good thing if you exercise your critical thinking. I think this is an indirect way to expose him to information and suggest that critical thinking is not a bad thing.
I hope this helps.

I am sorry for the sad situation some of you are in. I am happy for you, however, because you are now free. I believe all of us can say a thing or two that might help a lurker, or a poster, to think about his/her own situation and react.
So, buddies, in your opinion, what can be done from outside to help people indoctrinated to that degree? When you were witnesses, would there have been something that would really shock you and make you question whether shunning was really right?

as a JW were you comfortable with this question?
by highdose ina few times in the ministry i would find someone clued in who would ask the jw on their doorstep " so what your saying is, unless i join your religon god will kill me?
and everyone else who isn't part of your religon?
" now theres only one answer to that question as far as jw's are concerned but i never saw a single one answer that with a straight answer, mostly i suspect because they were so uncomfortable about being made to face the truth about their beliefs..

I am with greenie here. Do you think there is any relationship between your not believing that only JW's would be saved and your eventually leaving the organization? I also agree that it could have to do with your thinking out of the box.

The video apostates are connecting with the Witnesses
by koolaid-man inthe "video apostates" are connecting with the jehovah's witnesses.
not only are the witnesses watching these critical videos exposing the wathctower religion, but they are also commenting on them.
many jehovah's witnesses are leaving the organization because of this powerful internet exposure.

I would like to point out something I read in a book I own. Have you noticed that angels NEVER appear to people in India, for example? Or the Virgin Mary to non catholics? Or Hindu gods to atheists? I believe that atheists don't usually claim they have been visited by a ghost. If they did, perhaps they wouldn't stay atheists at all.

Intellects do not believe in God
by garyneal inon our trip back home from the thanksgiving holiday spent at our home town my wife labeled me an intellect.
normally, i would've been flattered with the title but when she called me that she was referencing the bible verse matthew 11:25. this offended me to say the least.. she said that it was hard for people like me to have faith in something because i will always investigate it and make sure of it.
for example, if someone told me that the grass was green, she said i would not believe them and research grass and the color green to ensure that it really was.. i told her that this was absurd and that i see no reason to research whether or not the grass was green when i can see with my own eyes what color it is.

Gary Neal, you're not alone in this. I belong to a very different tradition maybe, but I had to go through the same stages you have, and I also had a professor who sort of opened up my eyes to different aspects of having faith. Only he was a theologian.
I have gone further than you have, in a sense. I am very happy with the idea that very likely there is not any God out there.
Have you tried reading the Bible with critical eyes? Checking what is real in it? Like, for example, reading that the Book of Daniel, so important to Christians, was written in three languages, or at least two, and then in different times. I understand that the first chapter is written in Hebrew, then chapters 2 to 7 are written in Aramaic, and then chapters 8-12 are written in Hebrew again. Chapters 12 on are written in Greek, which is why the Protestants and the JWs consider them a fake. The book isn't always written in the first person. Aramaic became a language in common use when Hebrew ceased to be one, and that does make me raise an eyebrow about the validity of the book as a whole, not just the texts in Greek. And then, apparently the book was not written at the time it supposedly was written.
If you read your bible, whatever version of it, no one ever tells you that the book was written in different languages. You have the impression that it was the product of one man, never several. Isn't that a way to conceal an important fact?
If you find this kind of things, and lose some of your faith, is that irrational? Or, on the contrary, does it appear easy to you to disregard these facts and go on believing blindly?
