Agree with Robdar. It's always amazing how human beings recover from this kind of things as soon as they get some freedom.

Not sure how to handle this one
by Heartbreaker inone of my children was a twin.
i'm hoping that by stating this, i'm not giving too much of my identity away, but here i go anyway.. one child a twin, only survivor.
it was always told to this kid that the twin would maybe be met in the "new system".

I assume this is why some witnesses I've met are in bad need of dental care.

by dgp ini'm reading "the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses", by heather and gary botting.
in chapter 7, the authors argue that the wtbts needs a stream of converts if it wants to avoid becoming an established religion.
they also argue that disfellowshipping serves the purpose of maintaining "unity at all costs".

I'm reading "The Orwellian World of Jehovah's witnesses", by Heather and Gary Botting. In chapter 7, the authors argue that the WTBTS needs a stream of converts if it wants to avoid becoming an established religion. They also argue that disfellowshipping serves the purpose of maintaining "unity at all costs". It is the way to let some steam out, and push out the potential troublemakers, for example people who see too clearly and could "spoil bad habits" in others and keeping the ones who will not create trouble (who, in my opinion, are bullied into compliance).
I have the feeling that disfellowshipping, for all the pain it causes, is now backfiring, thanks to the internet. First, the disfellowshipped and disassociated have created websites like these and are now getting in touch with those still in and with people like me, potential converts who won't convert at all because now we have the information. There is no more information and milieu control as in times past. I do understand that the information reaches those still in dropwise, but it still gets there.
What do you people think?

The moment you know you will die, too
by dgp inat some point in life, everyone outside of the wtbts realizes that death if a fact of life.
no one gets to accept that fact easily, and the moment when you realize you will die, too, usually comes all of a sudden and takes you by surprise.
when you were a jw, did you have such a moment, even though the society told you you would never die?

Rockme, that's about the age it really hits you that you won't be here forever after all.
Heaven, that was brave of you.

I think I can conclude that some witnesses don't think death will be something they will personally face. I wonder what all the anointed who passed away came to think when they learned they would die.
Nugget, I used to feel the same way. Some people think there's life after death anyways, and I can't prove them wrong. Personally, I have come to a point where I accept the fact that I will die someday. It's not nice, it would be so much better if I could find a way to make it go, but I know I can't, and I'm slowly coming to terms with that. Maybe that's because I'm getting old. I hope this helps you.
I used to be terribly afraid of death and the Catholic's version of Armageddon, which is the Message of Fatima. I remember they read it to me when I was ten years old, and it was a terrible shock. Now I don't feel so scared of it after all. If you're curious, and willing to read something from Babylon, the link is here:

Mouthy, my adopted mom, you're not losing it. When we spoke I was able to see you think more clearly than I.
I agree with you, mum, that we need to make good use of our time here, and that quite often we believe that some things bring us happiness but they don't. As you know, we might disagree a bit on whether there is a God out there, but we are in absolute agreement as to the rest.
Oh, I disagree with you in another point. Some good people die old, for the purpose that some of us spiritual children meet them and benefit from their advice

No one gets to accept that fact easily, and the moment when you realize you will die, too, usually comes all of a sudden and takes you by surprise. When you were a JW, did you have such a moment, even though the society told you you would never die? My understanding is that some people in the WTBTS do believe they won't die if it's not by accident. So, I wonder if the hard fact comes to you despite everything they tell you.
Thanks for your answers.

Were you a JW that "bend" the rules?
by Mr. Monday Night ini knew a few jws (including some of my family members) who would go clubbing, concerts, play sports ,watch rated r movies and go to party's with "worldy" people.
at the same time, managed to live life in the "truth" (such as field service, give talks, hold the mic during the wt study, etc.).
were you one or knew a jw who was like that.

Excuse my asking if it sounds dumb to you, but I'm a non-JW and don't know many things. So, being on Facebook is bending the rules? I have seen lots of JWs on Facebook. I suppose having worldly friends on Facebook would be even more bending of the rules. What about joining groups that are obviously led by worldlies?

I agree with Elsewhere. It would be a lot easier to convert to the WTBTS if we all despicable unbelievers woke up one day in Paradise Earth and saw it was true after all.
