Illegal immigrant applies to be admitted to the Florida Bar!
by moshe inlaw school admits an admitted illegal and when he graduates the fl bar thinks he should just go away quietly?
it's absurd to let illegal immigrant children enroll in first grade and then years later after they graduate from high school or college expect them to return to their foreign place of birth as adults.. "the florida board of bar examiners, which grants membership to the bar, has asked the state supreme court to determine whether it can accept someone who is not in the country legally.
the supreme court flagged the case as "high profile" last week.. "no one who has shown this guy's level of contempt for american law should be practicing law," said william gheen, president of americans for legal immigration, a political action committee that opposes amnesty for undocumented immigrants.. tom fitton, president of the conservative watchdog group judicial watch, agreed.. "he can't practice as a lawyer," fitton said.

I don't live in the United States but many relatives and friends do, and most of them didn't enter the United States legally. Some of them have become legal residents and even citizens. And perhaps some of you know that I have been in strong disagreement with those of you who are against illegal aliens.
THAT SAID, I am also the son of browns of two different countries, and I have to say that in one of those two countries "south of the border", my mother, a LEGAL immigrant, who studied her career under the laws of the country, married, with a number of children, with a husband born in that country from an endless line of locals, duly authorized to practice and a LEGAL resident, could not work as a professional. No one would give her a job because she was foreign. In that country, if you are illegal and they know it, off you go. Americans are merciful in comparison. In fact, my own birth certificate states that my mother "could not prove her legal status in our country", and that simply means that she couldn't produce the card, not that she didn't have it.
In view of this, I would have trouble demanding that the United States do what at least one country "south of the border" does not do.
If the man is an illegal alien, then he can't practice law. Simple. It is true he broke the laws when he entered the country. It is true that he's not obeying the laws of the country, and he intends to work as an attorney. It would not make legal sense that he were allowed to practice. They do have to recognize him as a graduate, but that is a different matter.
Now, please don't extend that to other illegal aliens. Those have jobs because there is someone who wants to give them jobs. If Americans in general were seriously anti-immigrant, then they could do what that country south of the border does. That way you guys wouldn't have immigrants. Immigrants break the law when they enter the country (though not all of them), but they would go back if no one gave them a job. And I don't necessarily mean other immigrants.

Catholics! Why did u choose your religion?

It is probably safe to say that most Catholics were born in countries where almost everybody else was a Catholic, too. They (we) just followed what was "natural".
When I was a kid, only one of my friends was not Catholic. He is still a Baptist. Everybody else was Catholic. You didn't ask what people believed in.
Oh, my mistake. There was one Moravian Brother, too, only he would do everything a Catholic would do, including prayers.

Question for Dogpatch (Randy): What will it cost to produce the new 16-page Watchtower & Awake?
by Alfred inwhen literature used to be sold d2d, i remember how the society never missed an opportunity to trash other religions for "peddling god's word for profit" while boasting about how the watchtower only charges for the cost of the paper and ink.. in the book "witnesses of jehovah", the author mentioned that randall watters used to be involved in print cost analysis and determined that, while we were selling wt & awake mags for 20 cents door-to-door, it was really only costing the society 4 cents per copy to produce.
that's a whopping 400% profit!.
obviously, things have changed... the paper is different, as well as the ink and printing methods in general.

Jesus, Jacob, Moses and those worthies, are they of the anointed, or what are they?
by dgp ini apologize if this is dumb and very basic, but, jesus, jacob, moses, et cetera (all the "ancient worthies") are of the anointed, or what are they?.

Thank you very much, Blondie .
Just as a final comment: then it was only fair that Rutherford should occupy Beth Sharim. After all, he was above the "ancient worthies".

Blondie, I know you're explaining their position, and I appreciate it very much, not just for the knowledge and the nice interaction but also because it is essential to my post. Yes, they claim that the Governing Body is composed of anointed, in the sense of "holy spirit" without capital letters. OK. But, is this Governing Body more relevant to Jehovah than David was? If the answer is yes, then how come he's less important, if he was the king of Israel and had the privilege of counting Jesus among his descendants? If the answer is no, then are we happy to have second-tier guys issuing rulings?
It would seem that being one of the "anointed" in the spiritual sense should matter less than being one of the anointed in the physical sense.
Again, I want to thank you very much for your posts and the knowledge you share. You are just great.

Now, please don't think I'm kidding you, but, on the basis of what you say, I understand that "anointment", then, means "with the holy spirit", with no capital letters. Saul and David were anointed, but in another sense; anointed with oil, which we must understand not to be as valuable as anointment with the holy spirit, despite the fact that Saul and David were chosen to lead the Israelites, God's chosen people.
Would Saul and David make it to the Governing Body? No, because they were not anointed. Well, yes, because some of the members of the Governing Body are not anointed and made it to it, anyways. But, all things considered, while the Watchtower is a society and a corporation, David was the real thing: he had a theocracy, and not in figurative terms. Whatever David said, that was the law. That sounds like a lot more than sitting around a conference table in Brooklyn and having one vote among many.
I still think that Jeremiah and Elijah and Elisha, Samson, all those guys somehow have to be more important than Rutherford, for example. Or Daniel, the happy medium / means YHWH chose to tell us about the basis of the count of times.
For some reason, I feel that this anointment thing does not stand on its feet, not even if you're a firm believer in the Watchtower.
And I keep having the feeling that, if I were a Jew of Jesus' time, I would put faith on a shepherd who became King and was anointed with oil by Samuel, and wouldn't put my faith on some carpenter claiming he is the Son of God and the heir of the House of David.

Question. I never learned the Bible that well, but I understand Saul and David were anointed by Samuel. Are they of the anointed, in Watchtower terms? Apparently no. What are they, then?
I would think that anointing someone with oil, directly dispensed by Samuel, would be more of an anointing - and certainly more reliable an anointing- than just feeling the calling.
Now, where would Jeremiah be in all this? Elijah? Elisha? Solomon?
I would think that someone YHWH takes the time to anoint is more important in His eyes than someone who never gets the anointing. But then, what do we mean by anointing?
