Are there stats available showing how may people baptized are "new" to the faith, rather than being "born-in" !!
Would be interseting to see how may people are actually being converted to JWism!!
i came across the quote below on a yahoo answers page discussing the growth of religon:.
i'm one of jehovah's witnesses and on average every day 800 people are baptized as jehovah's witnesses.
these are individuals who have studied the bible for a period of time and have to show that they understand, truly believe and want to live by god's standards.

These are individuals who have studied the Bible for a period of time and have to show that they understand, truly believe and want to live by God's standards. Nobody is forced to do this and it's not that easy as before baptism there is a period where each individual will show their faith by witnessing to others about what they have learnt. These 800 a day are of their own free will baptized so this is a pretty genuine growth not an artificial one based on baby baptisms or that you're just another number in a religion because your parents are that religion."
is this girl really a jw, and what will happen to her in her congregation after this.............. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baeepruo1go.
JOHN DOE - I don't know what sports you play, but if I was to say "I would ram a f'ing tennis ball down someones f'ing throat til they died" to an official whilst playing any sport I would expect to be banned for a long time!!
If I said it to a member of the public I would expect a visit from the police!!

Thanks wantingtruth,
I hadn't noticed that!
Sorry,
Not sure what i did wrong but nothing appeared on my post!!
As some of you know, I am currently researching JWs to help me reason with my family about their "studies".
I came across the 2 videos below on you tube.
Are they really saying give up all your dreams/hopes to be a full-time JW?
What a depressing thought! Never able to enjoy the great things in life because the must attend "all the meetings" or devote all their time to the JWs.
Also what is with the crude daytime TV style of production - are all JW "productions" like this - do people accept this without any reference to the bible?
This is starting to get very frustrating!!!
hi - i'm new here so go easy on me!.
i've been lurking for a while trying to find out info on the jws.
some questions i have:.
Thank you for all the sound advice.
I have met many of my partners friends (JWs) and they seem very nice people.
I have made attempts to bring up their past teachings and false dates etc. However they just told me that they had recieved new light and quoted a passage from the bible.
Whenever I brought anything else (blood, shunning etc) up they seemed to have answers for everything!
The last time I questioned their teachings with my wife, she arranged for three JWs to come around to my house and "answer" my concerns. I didn't stand a chance and now she feels that she is justified in what she is doing and that it is indeed "the truth"!
Since then I have done a lot more research and feel much better armed, however they make a point of calling when I'm not around (at work etc.) to do the "studies".
I think I will tread lightly with my wife and try to slowly drip feed the information I have learned. My daughter is quite shy and I think that all the attention she has been recieving has turned her head. Maybe if this gradually stops she will see them for what they are.
One final point, my daughter has said at meetings that a 25 year old man, keeps complimenting her on her appearance etc. I have heard that heir is a "shortage" of wives in the JWs as their population is aging. Am I to be worried that she will bcome a target of all the men if she goes deeper into the congregation.
Again, Thanks for all the advice so far.

Thanks for the help so far!
My partner was very into her studies - but this has lapsed, she often gets an encouraging phone call from "friends" encouraging her to attend meetings and wants to go back - she was never baptised.
My daughter gets invited to other JWs houses for "parties" - watching tv, popcorn etc. She has also recieved cards stating she is "progressing well" - what the hell does that mean?

Sorry if this should be 3 separate topics, however it will be easier for me to keep track of answers in one topic.
Thanks in advance!
